    Till now, lucky with Wallas...

Or so I thought. Last time I was out, I had the Wallas running at the dock, then started the engine. Never did it that way before. Might have put me under the 11 volts Wallas wants. Anyway, the red light at the switch went out, and I had a cloud of diesel exhaust in the cabin. I never was...

Let's just go with that. Nordland Harbor. I may not get over till 7:00 or so. It might be good if we had at least a brief meeting about the Saturday race. Dave

There are TWO state parks - one on spit and one in the Nordland harbor. Both have docks and moorings. The spit is closer to PT, but has more wind and current. Perhaps we could start with the spit and evaluate. Dave

Can we have something definite on Mystery Bay. Is it the desire to be near the spit, or in Nordland Harbor? There are moorings and dock in both places. Either is fine with me. The harbor is much better protected from wind. Preference?

Time. The fastest craft will go 7 mph, and the course on Sunday is 13 miles. I expect total time will be about three hours, more or less (including a little time on water prior to race). The Saturday race is probably about two hours. Saturday the races start at 10:00, from Ft. Worden, near...

Tom I am not clear on where the preferred anchorage will be in Mystery Bay. I am expecting it will be either at the State Park at the bar, or in Nordland harbor. In either case, there are Park moorings. Unless we decide to be somewhere else... We'll want to see wind direction probably...

Can I please hear confirmation from you folks so that I am confident of our numbers? I know Sleepy C, Patty Cakes, Sea Shift and Dreamer will be here. Will the others please confirm. Will you be here Friday night and do safety boat for the Saturday race? Will you join us in Mystery Bay...

    06/18 - 06/19 - Port Townsend Safety Launch

I got a request from a Seattle rower to accompany him and a friend on the course tomorrow morning. He is rowing double. Looks like sustained winds of 10kt, out of the west, so there might be some waves and swells. They have had plenty of ocean experience, so I don't think it will bother them...

Saturday morning is the Rat Island Regatta, and it is based at the beach by the Marine Science Center, out by Fort Wilson. We can use the Marine Science dock. We can't all dock at once, but can take turns as needed. I don't believe we will need to go to the race meeting. I will know the plan...

oops. The docks are to the RIGHT side, not left side, as you enter Port Hudson.

I got updated information about moorage. The new plan is that we get Saturday night FREE. They are reserving for us three sides of 70 foot slip. In other words, we get a 70 by 44 space where we can raft if we need to, and an additional side. The first dock is to the immediate left as you...

It might be a consideration for all (or most) of us to spend the night in Mystery Bay. I'd like that. Dave

I just came back from a Townsend Challenge organizing meeting. I suggested we not include ourselves in the banquet, as we were only getting one meal per boat - let's head to the Port Hudson Cafe instead and get some of those fabulous crab cakes (best in town, if not USA), or some other...

Ah, the iPad. I knew better than get within 20 feet of him and his box of electronic addiction, and all of a sudden he was next to me and I got sight of the Canadian charts, and it was downhill since then, except I still can't figure for sure why I need one. There isn't an iPad in my hand...

One more rave. It was a great weekend start to finish - weather, friends, boats - just a great time. One more thanks to Barry and Patti. Harvey on Sleepy C, Bob and Darlene York on Kingfisher and I headed through Cattle Pass together, then Harvey headed off to Sequim, us to PT. We tried to...

I don't see a signup for Friday Harbor. I hope to get up for either Fri or Sat night, depending on water conditions. Sure would be nice if we have conditions like this weekend. Who can I notify? Dave/Plan C

Thanks for the accuracy in information, Harvey! Going around Rat Island depends on the tide, and I haven't checked it (I know Steve Chapin has for the Open Water race, to figure in the current). At high water, crossing the bar north of Rat Island is easy. At low water, going around via the...

    06/18 - 06/19 - Port Townsend Safety Launch

Harvey asked me a few questions that others will want the answers... If you can come Friday, it doesn't matter what time. Friday night can be a social time for us, and chance to discuss any safety/rescue issues. Port Hudson is easy walking distance to downtown, plus there are a couple of...

No harm in reserving now. If you can't come for unforeseen reasons, you can cancel. If I understand it right, I believe there is some reservation charge, and I was told that would be waived for us. Just be sure the Port understands that you are a safety boat for the OW race. We have at least...
