Welding on my Honda 75 and on the trailer

After I looked at the price my local Honda dealer gave me for special Honda paint (it was something like $25 for a spray can and then $25 more for clearcoat), he kindly advised that the local autoparts store would supply it for less. I haven't pursued that yet. Dave

    Interesting sail-assist trawler

Somehow there is an illusion that sailing is a free option compared to powering. Doing some pricing of sails, spars, sail hardware, shrouds and winches, all the sudden there is some money that could pay for a lot of fuel for a long time. If sailing is the choice, then a sailboat is the way to...

    CD 22 Cutaway Photos

Very interesting. I got an education in laminate hull construction this week. We had a presentation by Dan Newland, owner of Pegasus XIV, a 37 foot fin keel sloop that is built extremely light, of carbon fiber. The whole boat is 6000#. Combined deck and hull are only 1050#! Total hull width...

Water comming out of V-Birth Drain area?

One easy thing to check is to see if the drain for the anchor locker is properly sealed. Take the outer cover off and look in with a flash. On mine, there was not adequate caulk, and in rough water the water drained into the bow area. A little added caulk fixed the problem. If not that, it...

    Cummins QSD 150 hp / R-25

    >For the 22 with a 90 carburated Honda, the boat is on a plane at 14.2 mph >and gets the best "mileage" of 4.51 mpg@ 3500 RPM. I'll mention that with the new fuel injected Honda 90, I have gotten a high of 6.5 mpg at mostly 4200 rpm. Or at least it made me feel a little high after I calculated...

    installing canvas cover

I installed a used canvas on my 22 Cruiser last fall. This was the order of installation: 1. screwed track to top of cabin, at back edge of roof 2. determined the usual position of the supports by looking at other peoples' boats (for 22CD, about 25 inches back from cabin) and clamped supports...

Think Good Thoughts for Patty, Please

I came to this late enough to see the progress through the day, so am so glad to know she is doing well. We wish her a speedy recovery! And a soon return to the Water Cure (doesn't that mean time on the boat?). Dave

    Considering new Honda 90 EFI

I have a CD22 and did almost exactly what you are talking about. I replaced a 2004 Honda 75 with a new 90. As I recall I got $5000 trade and paid $4500. I have been delighted with the new engine and never had second thoughts. The new 90 has gotten as much as 6.5mpg compared to 4.5 for the...

    Garelick motor mount for kicker

I seem to remember that Garelick has been a preferred brand for kicker mount. I see a used one for sale, the "up to 20HP" model. Is this a good choice for a 22 Cruiser? Dave

    hard starting honda 90

The good news about starting the hard-start BF75 and BF90, according to Les at EQ, is that you are not likely to flood when you are cranking with the choke on. That had always been a concern of mine. Dave

    hard starting honda 90

I spent three frustrating years with a new hard starting Honda 75. I was unhappy from the day I got it and learned it had carbs instead of fuel injection. It started hard winter or summer, and only started easily when warm. I heard from many others of similar frustration. I solved the...

    Transom Drain plugs

I love these discussions of transom plugs. They are full of great reasons for each position always, and ultimately I am not sure it often matters which the outcome is. I count on Larry to be right about most things and rarely disagree with him. In fact I don't really disagree with him on...

    Routine electrical maintenance

I would like to know what the more knowledgeable do for routine electrical maintenance. I notice in particular that when I return from a trip, there is plenty of moisture in the starboard aft battery box. I understand the concept of polishing battery terminals, but what can you do for...

    Hot Buss terminals??

A good crimp is probably adequate, but you can easily solder as well. I use a small Ronstan torch (WalMart) to heat the fitting and wire so the solder gets sucked in. That will fill some spaces. Dave
