What's Seattle really like these days?

Mercer Island is VERY nice, little of the major Seattle problems, but one of the most expensive places in the region. I've worked on land stability issues there...it is probably one of the worst places to build a home geology-wise. Nothing is really affordable there compared to just about any...

    Leaking RIB

I have an old 10 ft Avon Rover R3.11 (what, 30+ years or so old now), in Hypalon. Getting into a kayak or canoe as a dinghy is getting more difficult and I'm thinking of going to an inflatable dinghy that we can just step into and easily put my Torqeedo on. This Avon has the inflatable keel...

What's Seattle really like these days?

...or spend northern winters cruising the southern hemisphere. Anyone ever read "Home is the Sailor", by Jorge Amado? One of my favorites.

What's Seattle really like these days?

Poster lived here earlier, so RAIN is in their former PNW experience. One thing that hasn't likely been is SMOKE...and during the nicest part of the summer when we want to be here. Hopefully better this year, but the forecast is not-so-good. We were the most polluted place in the world during...

What's Seattle really like these days?

Folks, please. Most of the Seattle bashing doesn't seem to come from people that actually LIVE in Seattle. I did for 30 years, and lived the best and worst. I get it. I recently sold two detached family homes in Seattle proper. Young families bought them, and one young mother wrote to me...

What's Seattle really like these days?

Everyone responding here, please read the first post. SoBelle currently lives in the DC area and is considering a job near SeaTac airport. My assumption is that they will have to physically show up at a job on a daily basis. Yes, Seattle is not what it used to be, and trash, broken-down...

What's Seattle really like these days?

I lived in Seattle for 32 years, moving there from rural Tennessee for a job...I liked Ivar's, the UW, paddling Lake Washington and the Ship Canal, viewing salmon at the "Locks", lots of other animals at the Zoo, the Blue Angels, boat opening day, fireworks on the 4th, Bumpershoot, and biking...

    Used Motor Prices

    A 2005 Honda BF90 wouldn't be a "D". My 2003 Honda BF90 "A" outputs 20A and charges more like 15A, the Honda BF90D outputs 44A and charges up to 40A.

    EFI on a Kicker?

For most motor makers, usually a 9.9 is a full-sized, lower power version of a 15 to meet restrictions. In fact, a "9.9" cover can be bought for a Honda 15 outboard to fool the water cops. They are exactly the same sizes. There are lakes where you can use a 9.9 and not a 15. The 15 probably...

    Simplest dinghy solution for TomCat

Carry = perpendicular bars attached to the parallel tubes on the roof. I've put on a show several times with the kayak, particularly at first...It is never easy, particularly if there are any waves. Very "refreshing" in PNW waters. You have to slip into it. I use the ladder and hold onto...

    Simplest dinghy solution for TomCat

I've used kayaks for years, and they are great, particularly for mucking around when anchored, and sea kayaks can handle some bad conditions. One I've used has been paddled around Vancouver Island....twice!!!!, inside and outside (not me, I inherited it). I now carry a single kevlar kayak (32...

The doubling of boat sales excise tax in the state of WA.

Definitely some are. I wrote letters to my three congressfolks asking them to oppose the tax increase on boats. Reps Leavitt and Bronoske replied quickly, said they opposed the tax, and were working to get the provision removed. Sometimes the response is that they support things, but understand...

Overnight parking boat ramp and marina list

Such a list would be great, and might morph into a user-supported app if the right person comes along, as used to be the case with Active Captain. On land, I use apps (Campendium) to find free campsites, and other apps (primarily Alltrails but also others) to find trails and parking for trails...

    Diesel odor

I would guess that if there is odor when the stove is not running, it is from spilled diesel or a leak and is exacerbated by the higher vapor pressure from Florida heat. I don't get an overpowering aroma here in the cold PNW, but I moved away from diesel to Klean Heat because of the smell. I...

    2021 spot shrimp

Well, you could be in area 13. No shrimp this year and no crab for the last 3 years, despite an abundance of red rock crabs. WDFW bases the total closure on Dungeness.

    Diesel odor

I use Klean Heat mostly after having the same problem. Its a lot more expensive but a gallon will usually fuel the Wallas for a good long time. There can be a smell if the combuation wafts back in, but it isn't nearly as unpleasant as diesel. https://www.lowes.com/pd/Klean-Strip-Ke ... er/3637782

The doubling of boat sales excise tax in the state of WA.

Part of the problem with WA is they have never used "fair market" value for valuing property. When I look it up, my C-Dory is valued for taxes at about twice its real market value. There is no appeal system of this valuation like with a house. Earlier I had a motorhome that had a "fair market"...

    vaccination

Yes, I did have several work experiences where I took hydroxychloroquine, and another antimalalial, I think primaquine. I never got malaria, which I am thankful for. Based on the things I saw endemic in people I met, particularly children, I became a firm believer in science and the positive...
