2006 Cruiser gas tank removal / hold down epoxying

Sunbeam, no worries. I've hijacked even my own thread before. Like right now when I'll mention that I'm finally installing a stereo on the boat. I think I'll post a thread on that since it's been pretty fun, and I've got a pretty perfect setup (in my opinion). So anyway, I'll come back to the...

2006 Cruiser gas tank removal / hold down epoxying

Hi Mike, I believe your boat and mine were made by different factories in the same year. My tank covers are only screwed to the motor well lip. The sides and bottoms are held in with some sealant and/or adhesive. I will probably do what Roger suggested and leave the panels floating, unless...

    Iceberg "tsunami" wave

Not a C-Dory in the video, but a small boat too close to a large chunk of falling ice. Pretty amazing. Do you think that alarm sound afterward is a bilge alarm? www.youtube.com/watch?v=HB3K5HY5RnE Unrelated video, pretty amazing as well!: www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sh271FAVZ0o

2006 Cruiser gas tank removal / hold down epoxying

Great, thanks Roger. With no sealant it will be way easier to clean gunk around the gas tanks, inspect hoses, find parts that fell through the hole in the back of the starboard lazarette, etc.

2006 Cruiser gas tank removal / hold down epoxying

Bumping this thread, all I need to know is what to use to reseal the gas tank 'curtain' panels to the floor and hull sides. 3M 4000? Life Seal? Is this sealant necessary here, or does it just help prevent vibration? Thanks in advance...

2006 Cruiser gas tank removal / hold down epoxying

Hey guys, we've been using the boat a ton lately, and now that I've got both tanks near empty, I wanted to take on the gas tank hold down straps. I can see that mine are screwed into the floor (core) and want to do the undercut/epoxy procedure. On my 2006, I have the permanent flat cockpit...

Galvanic Isolator -- When to Use

I have no idea why the isolator would be switched. It should really be wired near the inlet, between the inlet ground and the panel ground bus. What model is your panel and isolator? Maybe the isolator switch on the panel turns on the 'monitoring' panel and self test functionality? Non-fail...

Galvanic Isolator -- When to Use

At least on our 22, even with the motor up, the part of the motor that mounts to the transom is still in the water, so we'll always be susceptible to stray current. Also, as I mentioned before, the "Fail Safe" models will actually short the two connections together in case the isolator fails...

Galvanic Isolator -- When to Use

Many of them are passive, just a box with 4 diodes inside that won't let current through until the voltage differential is over some amount (i.e. ground fault). There's a fail safe type that will short the input to the output if the diodes fail. The non-fail safe types are supposed to have a...

New Port of Everett chief owns C-Dory...kinda

I also dropped by on the 5th of July after spending the 4th with family on Lummi island. I got to peek in to the shop and saw three 22s being built. Lots of activity, and lots of drooling (on my part).

    foot pump for sink

It's pretty simple. There's an inlet and outlet fitting and each has a duck bill type valve, I believe. In the middle of the unit there's a coil spring that pushes the diaphragm out after each pump. The rubber diaphragm is held on with a large hose clamp, I believe.

    Leaky Hatch

The method that finally worked for me (and it would have gone faster if I used this method the whole time) was to use a 1-1/2" putty knife and a hammer. First, remove the 2 big hex screws that hold the support arms. Then open the hatch and remove the 2 inner screws on the fixed part of each...

    Leaky Hatch

The cushion in our berth had a water spot that matched up with the seam/gap in the hatch base. Given that other people have found balsa rot around the hatch, I wanted to check ours while I was fixing the leak. There have been quite a few threads in the past regarding hatch resealing -- I didn't...

    Leaky Hatch

I just started on this project yesterday, and only had about 2 hours to work until I had to bike 33 miles around the lake to a BBQ on the east side (I didn't have to bike, it was for fun). I figured 2 hours would be more than enough time to get the hatch off from what I've read. Wrong! The...

    C-Dory Sightings

We saw a green 16 in Portage Bay next to a house boat, and a green 22 on the west side of Mercer Island on a lift.

    Mounting kicker at dock?

Our boat is at a marina in Seattle and the trailer is far away. We'd like to be able to hang the 9.9 kicker and remove it while it is at the dock. It's a straight dock, so we can't back into a slip and get access that way. For now, we're just planning on using the outboard clamps, but later...

Mercury 115 EFI 4-Stroke Charging System

If your battery switch isn't the "make before break" kind, then it may be unsafe to switch between 1-2-both positions while the engine is running. Unless it's make before break, the motor output will momentarily be floating while the switch is between contacts. Someone else will have to back up...

    Rule Automatic Bilge Pump

I believe there are Rule 1100s that use float switches, ones that use solid state devices (like the water level detectors in humidifiers and some espresso machines), and some are totally manual. Our 1100 is a white body in a blue basket, and the body unclips from the basket which is attached to...

    Leaky Hatch

I'm recommending what has worked for me, which I most likely learned by heeding thataway's good advice! :)
