    Lake Powell Getaway

Its a great time to visit Powell. Daytime temps are in the high 80's to low 90's and 50's to 60's at night. Can get windy though. The best thing about Powell is you don't have to have a plan. Just explore and you'll find some great spots to see and camp. If you head north out of Bullfrog...

    C Dory out of Business

Everyone, heads up! I stopped by the C-Brats web site and saw a post from the Bayliner user group that the C-Brats site is closed!

Trim Tab Position in Head Seas

In my experience what you describe is the norm. Be extremely careful however that you always, always, always lift your tabs in a following sea. Lowered tabs can be caught by a following wave or swell and will instantly turn the boat to one side or the other - and do so violently.

    motor maintenance

When I bought my boat in '04, the factory suggested I use Shell brand motor oil and mercury high performance gear lube. I have done so since day one. I imagine there are plenty of good oils out there but I think the Mercury gear lube is worth the $$$. I order all other parts and "fluids" like...

    4200 Sealant Storage

The freezer trick sounds pretty good. I use my Foodsaver. Works great. And tastes great when I use it next.

    IPAD 2 MOUNT

For as much as an iPad costs and given how varied water conditions can be, it seems wise to spend $26 and get a proper cradle for the iPad rather than rely on a suction cup applied to the back of the iPad. I use this - it's really solid...

    09/22 Lake Powell 2012

Here are some map links off the Waynes Words message board: http://www.wayneswords.com/index.php/ww-bulletinboard/5-lake-powell-recreation/3185-lake-powell-map-links-for-reference It's probably referenced elsewhere here but here is a link to Waynes Words - a great resource for Powell info...

    09/22 Lake Powell 2012

Mike- the Stan Jones map is good because it includes short blurbs about great places to see on the Lake. It is not a great navigation tool. The Park Service map of Glen Canyon is worthwhile too. You can get a copy when you visit or might be able to access one at the Glen Canyon NPS web site...

    09/22 Lake Powell 2012

Other than a few flies, the only other flying bugs at Powell are small gnats which will over run any light at night. The good news is they don't bite and don't like beer. Keeping lights off at night keeps them from congregating. However, if you like this sort of entertainment after sunset...

    09/22 Lake Powell 2012

Bill- am jealous you became a part of the Canyon before it disappeared. It must have been extraordinary. I do, however remind us all that in the time scale of the Canyon that 100000 years (when we may well hope the dams to be well gone) is only a blink of the geological-time eye... The Canyon...

    09/22 Lake Powell 2012

Here's what the Canyon looked like before the Lake: http://explorepdx.com/where.html It's pretty cool to be on the lake at these places and envision what they used to look like. There are pictures of the Oak Creek area here. (see the photos for Wishbone Canyon).

    charts ? droid vs computer

To the point the last poster made: the nice thing about an iPad is you can run other relevant apps. Not just music but topo map apps (for the scenery) , various nav and compass apps and the like. See Topo Maps, Starwalk, and Spyglass as examples - 3 apps I use in addition to navionics on my...

transom / motor well trim separating and leaking oil

JRassier is giving good advice I think. You mention the leak is occuring "above" the lower unit but if it is the gear case vent that too is part of the "lower unit". The lower unit being everything that drops out with the drive shaft when the water pump is changed. You might want to post the...

    Suzuki Periodic Maintenance Schedule

Yes, the tappet clearance check and adjustment is pretty straightforward but is the most challenging regular maintenance task at 200 hour intervals. Or I should say making any necessary adjustments (by changing out tappet shims) is the most challenging. Checking tappet clearances (the space...

Storage Wars! I'll give you $250 for the whole room! On the impellor replacement, be sure and turn the drive shaft clockwise as you drop the water pump housing on to orient the impellor vanes properly.

    Suzuki Periodic Maintenance Schedule

You may be able to get the service manual from Brown's Point and I second the other posting as to them being the best place to get parts. The manual I have is outstanding and I have done all my own service for 7 years and 800+ hours on my twin DF40s. They still purr like kittens. The water...
