    Battery Charger

This is good advice. I presume this is important for those with single batteries, ie, without a spare or spare bank for the house circuit. If you do have a house circuit (which can be switched to for charging when back underway, after using the cranking battery or bank to strat the engine(s))...

King Trailer owners - check your disc brakes

No question a fresh water brake washdown system is Cadallac. Anyone doing so might try all plastic parts. Lacking such a system, I religiously apply a fresh water rinse to my (new/replaced, vented, more robust) brakes on my King ( as per posting #1 in this thread) and then apply a liberal...

    Honda/Racor fuel filter

You'll know when you pull off the filter, but I bet it is a Racor. A 30 GPH filter element will cost you about $18. You can buy them online. I replace my fuel/water filters every 100 hours, whether or not I have seen water in the bowl. $18 is a good investment vs. the hundreds or even...

Engine flush & shore power questions

Re: Charlie's land based flush system: I realize this won't help anyone at the dock, but I use something similar. It's an old poly barrel, cut to height to allow water (when filled ) to cover the cavitation plate (ie all intake ports). I added 4" casters to the bottom and sealed the...

    Honda Throttle Friction Lock

You can often find parts illustrations online, a la the one for Suzukis at Brown's Point marine http://www.brownspoint.com/ This will help you find the adjustment. You can also order a shop manual - which I highly recommend. See Honda's web page at http://www.honda-marine.com/FAQs.aspx. Or -...

    Inside Storage

I recommed you look at a ClearSpan structure from Farmtek (http://www.farmtek.com. Here a photo of mine. I am really pleased with this structure and keeping the boat dry makes a huge difference. (Note only the hitch sticks out which I cover with a spare piece of the building fabric.

No more C-Dory Factory service, Seattle area

Sea Ray of Redmond, Fife and Seattle are all units of Lake Union Sea Ray. According to Jeff the Fife (Milton actually) store is where the C-Dory expertise is currently focussed. Scott is there so that's where I am going.

    Propane Storage

Lots of good advice here: Al tanks, store tanks in lockers, out of bilge, etc. But I seriously suggest you talk with a reputable dealer/installer. There are a lot of nuances here, including installation specific issues like venting. Don't forget the propane and CO monitors. I looked into a...

No more C-Dory Factory service, Seattle area

When I posted the start of this thread I also emailed Jeff Messmer at C-Dory. He phoned me this morning. (Pretty awesome turn around.) Here is the substance of our conversation (some of this is confirmatory of the data in this post to date): This change occured on 1 Sept of this year...

No more C-Dory Factory service, Seattle area

I understand outside the Seattle area a dealer is your primary resource - and I'm sure there are some good ones out there. But for those who bought their boats from the factory, and have had them serviced there, this is a significant change.

No more C-Dory Factory service, Seattle area

I was informed today by Bret Reynolds of C-Dory that the factory no longer services boats (including anything potentially warranty related). Instead, he is referring me to the SeaRay dealership in Fife (WA). Did I miss something? This is the first I knew of this change. With all due respect...

    Bilge pumps

P.S. 7.5 inches of water in the cockpit of a 22 (not including the bilge area between the tanks - just the open area) would weight 1,131 pounds.

    Bilge pumps

The Johnson Pump web site is here: http://www.johnson-pump.com/JPMarine/default.htm The distributors page is here: http://www.johnson-pump.com/JPMarine/default.htm?page=/JPMarine/marine_distrib/distribframeset.html Interesting to note a 2200 gph pump (at 0 head) will pump 36 gal a minute, or...

    Boat fenders

oldgrowth: Definitely undersized and bouy size matters. I have to admit - it would sure be a hoot to come into the dock with 2 of these babies. Maybe we all need one of these two: http://www.maritimeinternational.com/photolibmaker.php?id=69

    Boat fenders

Not "scotchmen" but "scotsmen" (me grranpy be rrrollin' overrr in hees grrrave...) and not "fenders" or "bumpers" but "buoys". They are great - as "fenders", as shrimp trap floats, anchor raisers, and halibut tethers - and for that dude coming in to dock next to you at 27 knots. Those in the...

    Antenna Mount

I have an antennea mount of the style you describe (only nylon - not SS) on my 22. See http://lookleap.com/fisheriessupply.com/a7 It is mounted just aft of the port nav light on the side of the boat. It works great - as you described - up for use and down for transport. Have never had any...

Can someone educate me on Optima Batteries?

Here are the charging (and other specs) for the Optima blue top: http://www.optimabatteries.com/publish/optima/americas0/en/config/product_info/marine/technical_specs.html As to outgassing with overcharging, I note that the Lifeline AGMs are MIL SPEC for "nongassing even during overcharging"...

Can someone educate me on Optima Batteries?

I read a recent review somewhere that rated the LifeLine AGMs as the best performing, most cost effective battery for marine applications. Sorry I can't find the reference now. http://www.lifelinebatteries.com/marine.php Maybe more comparative info is available on the web. BTW, one advantage...

    Hot-rodding a C-Dory

Revving up a C-Dory with a surface prop sounds good. Speed is the one thing I love which I had to give up with my 22. I am not sure, but my concern would be with the shape of the hull and resulting performance. At higher speeds I suspect all you will do is lift the boat out of the water (as...
