King Trailer owners - check your disc brakes

gljjr: You know me so well -- and we have yet to meet. My "6 sided" wrench looked like this: It made those bleeder nuts nice and round.

King Trailer owners - check your disc brakes

SEA3PO: Thx for the info. Gary Estes recommends a 6 month interval between brake fluid changes, check/maintenance and bearing repacks for guys like me that generally are always trailering in/out of saltwater. BTW, your trick for bleeder nuts is right on - I also noticed Gary used a deep well...

King Trailer owners - check your disc brakes

In interesting experience to relate to all King Trailer owners: My 2004 King tandem (4000 model) has 3910 miles on it. Imagine my surprise when I went to check the brake fluid level the other day to find the reservoir empty. This can happen when brakes wear out, requiring more fluid than the...

Shorting battery due to flooding cockpit

Question to Seabrooks: Why not eliminate all (most) doubt and place the #2 battery adjacent the #1 battery in the starboard lazarette? Alternative: place #2 in port lazarette.

    Engines stalling?

McNaughty III, Buckin Coho here. we exchanged brief "hallos" at Neah last week. You are a braver man than I - the water was a bit too piled up for me to venture beyond Mushroom Rock or Tatoosh. I understand the pounding you took though. It's the only time I curse that flat hull and...

    Boat Soap...the GREAT rip off

I'm a Dawn fan because using a bunch of it stumps my wife ("Where did all the dish soap go?") I have also found that plain old rubbing alcohol takes off those black streaks, but wash the area down with detergent immediately after. Rubbing alcohol (not the Jack Daniels) is used to prep/clean gel...

PROBLEM ON THE HORIZON - ETHANOL???

Larry H / Nancy H: I don't think your posting was deficient in any way - it highlighted an important point for all of us - THANK YOU. Glad to see we might have communally got to the bottom of this!

PROBLEM ON THE HORIZON - ETHANOL???

Thanks, sawdust - look forward to what you might find. BTW, the product description for all the filters at the Racor web site state: "Clear contaminant collection bowl with drain valve for outboards". So maybe drains on filters in outboard applications are OK...?

PROBLEM ON THE HORIZON - ETHANOL???

Nancy H: Can you point me in the direction of those CG regs that prohibit gas/water separators/filters from having a drain? Mine was factory-installed. I also note every gas spin on Racor Fisheries Supply carries has a drain. All the spin ons for gas at the Racor (owned by Parker)) web site...

PROBLEM ON THE HORIZON - ETHANOL???

I imagine any type of filter is helpful. I also have a factory-installed Racor fuel/water filter and separator (example: http://lookleap.com/fisheriessupply.com/a2. I like it because it is easy to drain any water in the collection cup. EFI engines do not do well with any water in the fuel...

PROBLEM ON THE HORIZON - ETHANOL???

Speaking of water in fuel, I recently bought a Racor fuel funnel which separates water from fuel during filling. They use a filetr material that lets fuel in but wtaer out. They are available many places, but Fisheries Supply is my preferred supplier: http://lookleap.com/fisheriessupply.com/a1

    Trailer capacity; a cautionary tale

Yellowstone: re accuracy of the scales I used - I agree it might be a factor. I might go to a different scale and try again. The only thing is that the scales I used to get a boat+trailer weight weighed my truck (alone) accurately. (I know because the scale weight = the Toyota published curb...

    Trailer capacity; a cautionary tale

Da Nag: Thanks for raising this red flag re: boat load. See below. Iggy: Thanks for the Cat Scale link. I might just take the rig up to Northbend and check it out, but believe the scale at Cadman is accurate for axle weights, i.e., weights at the loading end are as accurate as weights dead...

    Trailer capacity; a cautionary tale

Just a couple of points: 1. Thanks for all the feedback. I am interested in learning as much as possible and hope this thread is never "stopped in its tracks". 2. I disagree my initial post contains any misinformation. If anything I tried to put as much data in the post as possible. I also...

    Trailer capacity; a cautionary tale

I have a 2004 22' on a tandem axle King Trailer (KBT4000B2), both purchased direct from the factory. The trailer is the second trailer under the boat, the first being swapped out by King when the boat was at the factory a few weeks after purchase to have the engine mountings adjusted. The King...

    BATTERY SWITCH

OK, Robbi: blah blah blahblah, blah blah. (LOL) It turns out this Blue Seas battery selector switch has AFD (forget about what it means - you need it) built in: http://www.bluesea.com/product.asp?Product_Id=31165 I just put one on my boat and plan to swap out my other no-doubt-soon-to-fail...

    BATTERY SWITCH

A tangential comment to Minnow's post (and an earlier one by Sea Wolf. If the isolated starting battery won't work (presumably battery selector switch position #1), you should switch to position #2 (house battery) to start the engine - not "Both" as what will happen immediately is the house...

    New Washdown Pump

Here's a shot of my washdown: I wanted to keep the working area in the cockpit clear. This shot shows where the washdown (Johnson 3.4 GPM) is located - above the starboard fuel tank, bolted through the bottom of the lazzerette. (The pump is ignition protected...) All the output piping...
