Tomcat 24 vs 25 Cruiser for Kids and fishing and rough water

The Tomcat 255 vs 24 debate has been done before but I will add my (biased) opinion as a Tomcat 24 owner since the question has come up again. Some thoughts.............. The Tomcat 24 head came with the option of marine head and holding tank or porta potty. Mine has the porta potty...

Hardware replacement for drawers and cabinets

I also had trouble getting the tension right with the original ball catches. I even removed one ball from the catch to make them easier to open, but my wife still thought the pull force required was too much. No amount of fiddling could hit the sweet spot of easy to open but not popping open...

    03/05 - 03/07 - Hontoon Island Gathering St. John’s River

Cindy and I are unfortunately not going to make it this year. I thoroughly enjoyed attending the last 4 years. The St. Johns river is such great cruising. I will miss it and seeing everyone. Always so much to learn from fellow C-brats. Our 17 year old dog (Hana) is doing good for her age...

    Tomcat propellers

I agree with all the advice above, especially from Bob and John. I do not have experience with the 255 but I have some suggestions based on my experience with my Tomcat 24. I think you have a lot to gain by getting rid of some of those batteries. Ask yourself how you are going to use the...

Rotted Fuel Pickup Tubes in 2007 C-Dory Cruiser

This is a good topic and reminds me that I should inspect my pickup tubes. I replaced mine 7 years ago when I first got the boat. I was running along and 1 engine quit. I had about 20 gallons still in the tank but no fuel in the line. Fortunately, I made it to a marina for more gas on the...

    Outboard Weight

I think you will be very happy with that decision. I also decided to go with the Mercury 90s (qty 2 on my Tomcat 24) 2 years ago. Mercury is not as light as the Suzuki but it does give you the most displacement at 2.1 L. Mine have been trouble free so far. -Jeff-

    Twin Tohatsu's

My opinion is that all new outboards are good quality. I would suggest that if this is your preferred dealer and mechanic, that is more important than engine brand. I had the previous generation Tohatsu 115s (TLDI - 2 stroke) on my Tomcat. I recently replaced with Mercury 90s. My replacement...

    2004 Tomcat Water tank leaking

I am confused on where your tank is, but either way access is easy. If it is on the port side, remove the screws and pull up the floor panel under the aft seat. If it is on the starboard side, remove the screws and pull up the floor panel under the galley. The early Tomcat 24's had the tank...

    Honda scheduled maintenance in Georgia

In Savannah there is only 1 Honda dealer/shop. Adams boat shop. He usually does not do house calls - only maintenance at shop - but you could ask. This shop is about 2 miles from ICW in Thunderbolt (east side of Savannah). If you need parts (filter, water pump, etc), if not in stock he can...

    03/08 - 03/10 - Hontoon Island CBGT DeLand Florida

Further comments on Mark's amazing model. He carved a prototype from wood, then made a 3 piece mold from that, then cast the model he showed (and others) out of resin (that his chemist wife helped with). Very creative and labor intensive with impressive result! Thank you Tom and Joyce for...

HELP!--24' Tomcat stolen and recovered. Need photos.

That's horrible. How frustrating. I will take some pics today and send straight to your email. I don't have a photo album on this site. Unfortunately, my wiring is a bit of a rats nest and not labeled but I have the front side of the switch panel labeled with the functions. James of Molly...

AGLCA Ft Myers to Hontoon adventure

My guess would be the pressure control valve. I don't believe any engines I have owned have had this valve but that sounds like the culprit. If pee stream is good, then enough water should be getting up to the engine so no issue with pump, housing or water tube from pump. If valve is stuck a...

    03/08 - 03/10 - Hontoon Island CBGT DeLand Florida

Hey James, Yes I am planning to run the boat from home to Hontoon this year. I will trailer as a back up only if weather looks bad. Tow vehicle is old (230K miles) and trailer is older (1998 with countless salt water dunkings), so boat itself is most likely to get me to Hontoon by Monday...

    03/08 - 03/10 - Hontoon Island CBGT DeLand Florida

Thinking nobody wanted to be #13 to sign up. Just did it, so now we are past that. I will take extra precautions of not departing on Friday and keeping bananas off the boat. Cindy and I are looking forward to it. (I have 2 new motors this year so I can't blame a botched docking on motor...

    Tomcat 24 repower thoughts

I would suggest the engine decision is best determined by evaluating what you are looking for compared to your current 100 hp engines. I just repowered from Tohatsu 115s to Mercury 90s. (It took over 6 months of waiting due to covid delays.). For me the Tohatsus were more power then I needed...

Dealer balking at idea of epoxy plugs repower installation

The thing with engine dealers is that they hang and rig engines. They are mechanics not a boatyard. Boatyard repair people would know how to do this. As clayhubler stated; if you want it done how you would like, doing it yourself is best. I handled this by taking boat into repower dealer and...

    ‘99 Tomcat

I would not be to concerned about the deck issue as it sounds localized. I would suggest that you have 2 options. 1. Take the wait and see approach. If area does not get any larger, then no worries. 2. Do some exploratory surgery. (I personally would do number 2 as I would just be too...

    ‘99 Tomcat

Congratulations! I hope you are as impressed with your boats abilities as I am with mine. I believe you have purchased the best C-Dory model (in my biased opinion). -Jeff-

    24’ Tomcat Sponson Access

Access to sponsons under deck on port side requires removing floor under the aft seat and pulling up the plywood floor. The problem is that this space is occupied by the port gas tank, so that would have to be removed also. Not a quick job. I think I would inspect the entire surrounding area...

    Used C-Dorys selling fast!

Yes. The for sale list is now shorter than I remember seeing it since I have been a member of this site. Thank you for the cleanup. I would like to also add my own personal grousing about the boat/motor/parts supply chain. I ordered twin 90 Mercurys first week December 2020 with expected...
