    C-Dory Competition?

As Sealife pointed out - the Cape 23 is a much larger boat than the CD 22. As somebody else noted, it is has a V hull. Performance, handling, fuel use, towing will all be different. Better or worse will depend partly on the quality of the boat construction, but mostly on what the boater wants...

    Outboard Choice - Redux

I have driven Honda cars since 1981. Reliability and economy have always been my biggest concerns, and my Honda cars have always done both well (79 Civic wagon, 81 Civic wagon, 89 Civic hatchback, 98 Civic sedan, 02 CRV). No motor failures on any of these cars in way over half a million miles...

Anybody ever had to pull start a big main?

My Honda 90s ( 2 on the TC, 1 on my Arima) each came with a starting rope. I used one once when I killed a battery. Not too difficult. I would worry though about trying to start a 200 HP motor with a pull rope.

    Pain free insulation solution

Where did you get the idea that C-Dorites are civilized? There is no place that I have not got fish guts, and whacko nitwit is my middle name.

    New TomCat 25

I think he is talking about water coming in thru the scupper flappers ( say that fast ). When we drift to halibut fish, the boat turns sideways to the wind which is usually sideways to the waves - and water comes into and goes out of the cockpit thru the scuppers. I have had NO water get into...

    Fuel Economy

Thanks Joe; this sounds like a better idea than running aground on purpose. Patrick; the pitch and diameter number on stainless Honda props is on the inside next to the thrust washer. You have to take them off the boat to look at the numbers.

    Fuel Economy

Patrick in particular: I have Honda 90s on my TC - came with 3 blade, aluminum 13.25 diameter, 15 pitch props. WOT was 6000 rpm at about 28 knots - which seemed too high (rpm, not speed). I changed over to everything identical except 17 pitch props, and now WOT is 5200 rpm at about 28...

    Perfect cup o' Joe

This system works so well, it is what I do at home also. Absolutely simple, foolproof, and results in very good coffee.

    Washdown Pump

I hung a Shur-flow washdown pump beneath my home made downrigger mount - 3rd photo in the Barrel-o-Monkeys album. Waterproof switch mounted beneath the rigger mount, dunk a short section of garden hose with a brass strainer over the transom when I want to use the pump. No thru-hulls. On a...

    Sundog Adventures

We took our other boat - 17' Arima SeaChaser out into the mouth of the Kenai. The only other fiberglass boats I say were another Arima and a C-Dory with twin Johnsons. All the other dip-boats were either aluminum or plastic ( a great big canoe ) or rubber. The weekend of July 16, we got our...

    Power loss

On my old 17' Arima with a Honda 90, there was a 5 mph difference between a 4-blade Comp Prop and a 3 blade stainless prop - 30 vs 35 mph at the same 5500 RPM. I don't know why there is such a difference, but I think it is significant. Of course the Comp Prop was about $75 new at the time, and...

    RedFox's going-away party... ;]

Holy cr*(&^%#*&. You know when you get that thing loaded up, something humongous has to pick it up and carry it. Holy cr($^#(*^#. A friend of mine dismantled an 1830s barn back east, packed it into a 40' can, shipped it to his front door in Alaska, and rebuilt it next to his house. 170...

    07/02 - 07/03, Naked Island, Alaska

What kind of town type facilities are there in Tatitlek? That is kind-of sort-of in between Whittier, Valdez, and Cordova. There are some lodges up in Port Fidalgo that might be good meeting spots. I sat on a flight back to Anchorage with one of the lodge proprietors, and got his business...

Wanna Chat With Tom Cat Owner

1 - My TC does not have an anchor locker. The anchor stores on the bow roller and the line stores in a line locker, thru one of those anchor winch doors (not really convenient when pulling the anchor by hand). 2 - Don't know. 3 - Two people is great, three adults is a little cramped for...

What have you added to your boat that you wish you hadn't?

There is not much room on a TC for instrumentation, and I don't know what a better choice would be, but I got the Furuno NavNet combination radar/sonar/gps chartplotter - all on a single 7" screen. The equipment is nice enough but I would much rather have separate screens for each instrument...

    07/02 - 07/03, Naked Island, Alaska

OK - the plan is to show up Naked, at Cabin Bay on Naked about noon on Saturday? I don't know yet whether we will leave Whittier on Saturday morning, or camp out somewhere on Friday night. Anybody out there, call for Barrel O Monkeys on 16. We saw the coolest thing on Sunday morning -...

Wanna Chat With Tom Cat Owner

Have I got a deal for you. The Barrel O Monkeys travels out of Whittier Alaska. We have had it in the water August through October last year and all of June this year, so I must be a trained professional TC operator by now. I am looking for some good fishing connections for southeast...

    TomCat Custom Trailer Update

My correspondence with Jeff M and with EZ Loader is summed up as - EZ Loader is waiting to get their hands on the New TC hull so they can design a custom trailer. That design is to be modified to fit the current 24 TC hulls. I have also heard that the first New TC hull would be ready in March...
