    06/03 - 06/05 Eastern Shore, Maryland gathering

Communicated with editor-in-chief of Chesapeake Bay Magazine (an excellent mag, imo) - they are planning to send one of their staff writers to cover our "little" event.

C-Turtle, On behalf of all of us who are planning-challenged (and I know that most of our West Coast brethren will back me up on this!), just show up if you can -- you will be welcomed with open arms. One of the things I love about the C-Dory is that it allows spontaneity. Many is the evening...

Pat - Patty and Kathy will have much to discuss (commiserate on). I love being out when there's a small craft advisory, and I believe Kathy would describe my grin as maniacal as well! Tom/Terraplane: We would like four t-shirts - 1 XL, 1 L, and two S Many thanks,

Otter lives at Belle Haven Marina, just south of Old Town, Alexandria, VA. Pat and Patty, if you cruise all the way up the Potomac to that point, we can pull her out right there. If you want to stay on the Chesapeake, I can come fetch you at any number of places. Deale, MD has a public launch...

Best jury rig story that got you home

Yes, it's a good one. Note to self: buy tube of liquid metal to throw in my van crate next to duct tape, wire, and chewing gum.

Tom, I will be arriving with Pat and Patty Anderson with Otter in tow on Saturday morning. Would appreciate leaving van and trailer in your field overnight Saturday. Please send directions to your place and launch site to me at callahant@state.gov if you have a chance. Many thanks,

    Wallas Fuel

Doug, All I've ever used is diesel from the pump and I've not had a problem since purchase in 2001. Maybe the other stuff is better in some ways, but the diesel seems to work just fine.

Your first time in a C-Dory.

Great idea for a thread, Rick. The first C-Dory I stepped aboard was Halcyon. Bill and El were at Smallwood State Park in MD and invited me to come over after I made contact with them through the C-DOG site. I already liked a lot about the boat from what I had read (including Nick's article...

Drilling holes through gelcoat and fiberglass question?

Sark, I think if DaNag did a poll asking C-Brats whether we should limit questions only to C-Dory owners, it would be 99% in favor of sharing information widely in the tradition of this site (and that remaining one percent would probably be shamed into changing their minds!) I like the idea...

Spring equinox - what'd you do

Got the Otter out on the Potomac for the first time yesterday since January 8. Too much work! Engine started right up. Dogs enjoyed the cruise. Nice to have the days getting longer.

Best jury rig story that got you home

I was on a Rwandan fast patrol boat on Lake Kivu in central Africa in 2001. Beautiful day, beautiful Avanti boat with twin Yammy 250's, and we were on our way from Cyangugu to some town whose name I forget in the north. The engines conked out several times in succession and the overheating...

    Background in Sail?

Was a racing crew member on a 72-foot Britton Chance design called Dance II out of Chicago in 1984. Did three Chicago-Mackinac Island races on it in subsequent years. Got a paying job as crew on a 93-foot New Zealand-built sailboat called Odyssey. Took it from Chicago through the lakes, up...

Byrdman, The Chesapeake Bay waters can be mighty tricky. It would only be prudent for you to come do a little recon before your deployment!

    Hello and a question

Hi Law, Must haves: boat, engine, gas, minimum coast guard-required safety equipment (life jackets, flares, compass, fire extinguisher, vhf radio). Oh yeah- and a cooler :-) Everything else is a nice-to-have, but not required for the kind of exploration and fun you plan. Launching and...

P&P, You are authorized to do anything and go anywhere in the Otter that you would in your own boat! She particularly likes to be beached in secluded areas, accumulate large numbers of empty beer cans in her trash bin, and go fast over flat water. Oh yes, Otter also loves to be out in bad...
