You are right about the weight Bob. I spent the afternoon looking at the Yanmar BY series and the Volvo D3 series and Volvo D3-160 seems to be the best bang for the buck. I will see if I can get some of the numbers in a format that people can understand.

Les Can they install a motor in a new boat if it doesn't meet emission standards? I think they had to detune the 125 to get it to meet the standards. Thataway The Penta D3-130, 160, and 190 weigh 264lbs and have a 146cu in displacement. I hope they make a decision soon because I have...

What I said about which motor will be provided as an option and about detuning and problems meeting EPA standards with the 125 was told by C-Dory to my Dealer today.

Well, it may be that the C-Ranger will have to go on a weight reduction program. I just found out that C-Dory is having some problems meeting EPA standards with the Yanmar engines and even with the 125 must detune it to 110hp. I don't know why. This indicates to me that the hulls that are at...

I think another thing that could help the over the top dingy storage issue is to get rid of the fake smoke stack. Really unnecessary on such a small boat where square inches make a difference. I actually stopped at the dealer's today about this boat. We are getting serious about upgrading...

Les Thanks so much for your insightful post. This seems to be a watershed event. Seems its time for some reality to set in. It appears that ,since the Yanmar 110 is the largest engine to be offered, this boat will be underpowered for the expected weight. It sounds from your description...

New Hampshire Guy Here are some additional questions. 1. How about the noise level outside and inside of the cabin at different speeds? 2. Smell. Does the exaust follow the boat around at slow speeds? 3. Will the deisel engine operate at trolling speeds of less than 2mph and at length...

Pat Anderson writes- From how a heavier boat is going to perform on the plane with less horsepower under real world conditions is really what we are all waiting to find out. What also would be important to an Alaskan owner is how well this boat handles in rough water and I mean swells with...

    Anchorages in Alaska

I hear you completly. I wasn't talking about my 22 cruiser. In any case any window of opportunity would be in June and July. By the time late August rolls around the weather is much less consistent. This year especially the storms in August and September have been rolling in one after...

    Anchorages in Alaska

I fish out of Resurection Bay to the east alot. Its about a one to two hour trip were I go depending on conditions and there isn't much available to hide in in case of a weather suprise. You need to monitor the weather very closely before you start out because there are no marine weather...

    Thataway

drjohn71a The treatments your talking about wouldn't decrease noise levels but do reduce the echo in a large room. There isn't enough head room in the older 22 cruisers to be hanging things inside. Sound is vibrations in the air and travels freely when there is air. That is why bat...

Sea Wolf Thanks, I read the entire link. However it doesn't really tell you anything about the problem that can be used. The last post actually got to the point. It isn't the loudness of any particular motor, it is that the motor noise is amplified through the hull in the cabin. I have...

    Anchorages in Alaska

There appears to be good information on BC and the SE Alaska to Glacier Bay, and one book on the Kenai Fjords Park. I can't find anything on the area between Glacier Bay and Prince William Sound and Nothing on Blying sound to Cape Aialik. I have boated out of Seward for 13 years with my 22...

    Anchorages in Alaska

I remember seeing a chart or book listing anchorages in the waters off Alaska. None of the nautical charts indicate the usefulness of a cove to anchor in. Does anyone know of a source of information (book or chart) and can tell me how to obtain it. Would appreciate if greatly. dtol

I noticed in reading your log, as this is turning out to be, that you mentioned loudness in your first real test run. Now that you have been out a couple of times, is your TomCat as noisy in the cabin as the 22 cruiser? I have a 22 cruiser and the hull seems to amplify the engine sound to a...

    Whittier to Seward

Nainu Certainly do remember you and your boat. The number of C-Dorys on the water lately has increased by a bunch in this past couple of years. I have put my boat up for the winter already. I wasn't ready but it's done. The weather this year has been strange. It seems that every storm hit...

window fogging and shallow water alarms

I am suprized that with all the responses that more of you don't know about the simplest solution for window fogging and apparently have lived with it or spent quite a bit of money to resolve it. Take a paper towel and apply some dish soap to it and wipe it on the windows. Then take another...

I have the grey 22ft Cruiser you visited in Johnstone Bay during your trip. We were sitting on our favorite chicken hole. It's a good thing you went into Seward Thursday. Friday was a mess. We just slept in Friday morning, went out for breakfast and went home. I noticed you had an Etec...
