Well since the taxpayers money (your money and mine) paid for it, do you want them to spend more for Made in the USA?

    Unintended Acceleration Issue

They are called "trafficators" and were standard equipment on many English cars in the 30's, 40's and even the 50's.

    Unintended Acceleration Issue

Much of the problem is that the appropriate authorities did not do their job for whatever reason. The two most obvious candidates being Toyotas hiring of ex-safety agency personnel as lobbyists and the Republican philosophy of deregulation and "starve the beast" a combination which left NHTSA...

    Unintended Acceleration Issue

I don't want to rain on your parade, but my goodness, that car's a deathtrap!! It may be simple, but it's also has no crumple zones, no side guard beams in the doors, no rollover structure, no airbags, and I believe no collapsable steering column. Also wasn't the dash simply a piece of steel...

    Unintended Acceleration Issue

Just be aware that Toyota is the only, repeat only auto manufacturer that will not let anyone download data stored in the cars memory. In fact there is only ONE laptop in America that can access data stored in the master computer in Toyota cars. Unlike ALL the other carmakers who use open source...

You are assuming that moving the shifter does more than move a potentiometer to send a signal to the transmission computer.

    Unintended Acceleration Issue

The brake booster is powered by engine vacuum and if the throttle is wide open there is no vacuum being generated. That means you have only the assistance stored in the vacuum reservoir, if you use it up pumping the pedal you have no assistance stopping the car. Regarding shifting into neutral...

    Sea Sport Thoughts

Speaking of the Coast Guard, does anyone know what ever shook out regarding the death of that 8 year old boy at the Boat Parade in San Diego last Xmas? I remember hearing about the incident when it happened, but then nothing more.

    Seasport rumor

All Airbus' have been fly-by-wire since the beginning, same with the F-16 and all new fighters. Also the C-17 cargo plane...... As far as tow vehicles go I don't think you can beat our 2000 2wd F250 crew cab with the 7.3 diesel: got it last summer for $8500 with less than 90k miles. It had...

    Seasport rumor

I think that one would be hard pressed to find a new car with a mechanical connection between foot and throttle plate..... Even our smarts are throttle by wire.

    Something Must be Wrong

It's not "global warming" it's "global weirding" as in the weather just gets weird for a century or so. Too much rain in one place and a drought someplace else. Too hot in some places and too cold in others...

    09/24 - 10/02 - Lake Powell 2010

One of the advantages of a Bullfrog launch is that you are a lot closer to the upper river. The San Juan Arm entrance is at mile 59 and the Escalante Arm is up in the 70's IIRC, if you are new to the lake the lower river is a thrill. But after a few visits we found that we liked it a lot more...

    09/24 - 10/02 - Lake Powell 2010

Is Halcyon in indoor storage? If so, how much per month? We are thinking of keeping our boat in Page or Bullfrog/Lees Crossing for the summer and have wondered about the cost.

    Using the compass or not?

If the GPS that's built into my boat fails, I'll just use one of my two handhelds. If they fail I guess it's back to the Nav program on my laptop with the USB antenna. BTW, the units I have used will show the boat swinging at anchor and which way the bow is pointing. In other words it does...

Best Time to visit Lake Powell? March?

Just remember that the water level will be very low. The lake doesn't begin to fill until the snow melts in the Rockies, this means that the Castle Rock will be closed forcing you to make an extra 12 mile detour to get the the main lake. Now if you are just kayaking you can portage the Cut and...
