    27LC in PDX

I have seen the Devlin boats and like them a lot. I am leery of the plywood construction even with the epoxy encapsulation though. How can you tow a boat with a 9'6" beam? I mean legally w/o a permit. BTW how hard is it to get these permits, do you need a CDL?

    27LC in PDX

It's not that I want to build a copy of that boat, as you say it is very different from what we are talking about. It is more important that the designer show signs of a similar way of looking at things as me. That he has been thinking "outside of the box", but has a feel for traditional boats...

    27LC in PDX

Thanks for all the advice, esp. the Dave Gerr reference. I will be writing him soon for more information. I myself love small boat cruising, it's my wife that has the concerns about "cabin fever". While we could wait another decade and probably afford a 50 footer, I would rather start now...

    27LC in PDX

How do the longer boats handle? The L to W ratio is under 4:1 (3.75), which historically is not too lean, but these days boats are a lot beamier. Is there a point where a long low trailerable boat becomes unseaworthy or does it become too long for the road first? A 27 or 29 foot boat would...

    Pocket Cruisers

I enjoyed that article very much, esp the Caledon 27. It seems like a lot of boat in 27 feet and still looks like a boat, if you know what I mean. We are looking for a maximum trailerable cruiser and they gave a good overview. I wonder if once the price gets much over 100k if it isn't better to...

    Twins vs Single

Thanks for all the good advice, I have been learning a lot. One more question, are singles reliable or is the redundancy of twins a big selling point. Power/wt ratio only, a big single seems like a good idea, but I worry about only having one engine. I don't have a problem with a single inboard...

    Twins vs Single

Can anyone direct me to any debate regarding the relative merits of a big single as opposed to the same hp in two smaller motors. The boat would see use in Alaska, PNW, Baja as well as marina cruising. How reliable are the newest 4-strokes? Can I use my dinghy kicker as a get home and would...
