    New to us CC23

Yeah, the first hole was a bit of a Gulp!. But it is basically two holes with a large hole saw and then cutting the web in between. Need to get a metric hole saw though. Cutting the holes, dressing the cuts, and putting the windows in was an easy afternoon project.

    Pets, especially dogs

My dog does not like to go anywhere he can't walk to. He starts shaking even just going to the car if he realizes he's going in it. Tried sleeping with him on the boat parked in the driveway once, he was not a fan. We used to take him on our rib when he was younger, he tolerated that more than...

    Bathroom

Same here. Also, in remote anchorages and good weather, the porta-potti can just be put and used in the cockpit.

    New to us CC23

Adding small opening ports on the side of the v-berth trunk helps a lot with ventilation of that area. I added one like this on both sides. Also, they provide a way to see out of the boat when in the berth. https://webshop.vetus.com/en/product/pm121-porthole-type-pm121 Shown here in front of...

1998 Honda BF90 spare parts to carry

I have an '08 BF90D. I do the scheduled maintenance. I carry a spare prop, the tools to change it, and a quart or two of engine oil. However, I don't usually go off into the uncharted wilds in my boat.

c Dory 2000-2010 white gell coat

You're probably going to have to mix and match it. Even if you got the factory color, your boat (~20yo) is probably a different color now due to sun effects. Everyone's boat is going to be a slightly different color. If you're patient, mix and match is not difficult. Until you add catalyst, you...

    Shipping

My 22 on a AL trailer with some fuel, no water, and usual equipment for short trips weighed 4400# last time I weighed it.

    Shipping

If it were me, I'd do it myself rather than ship it. One of the reasons people buy these boats is the trailerability. If you're going to use it that way, might as well get an early start to it. Fly out to wherever the boat is, rent an Enterprise truck, and tow it home. Depending on where the...

WHEN DO WE RETIRE FROM BOATING?

Then I would start keeping it in a slip.

Locking problem at the St. Lucy Lock Florida

On the Erie Canal on my 22, it is not usually possible to grab two lines (the boat is too short). Using one line is not a problem, but you might have some issues with the boat twisting. This is not usually a problem unless the lock wall has some chunks out of it than could potentially catch the...

    03/04 - 03/06 - Hontoon Island, Florida 2025

Thermocell may not contain DEET, but the chemical used is classified as a non-persistent insecticide, not a repellent. It is only effective against mosquitoes and is highly toxic to cats. The chemical will not damage plastics like DEET. Just FYI. (P.S. I use them.) A fairly simple way to keep...

VHF antenna and radar reflector distance

The boats you are most likely to get run down by are unlikely to have AIS receiving and display capability.

    Where to Snow Bird

Not a lot of boating in Phoenix. You might consider Boulder City or Laughlin, NV.

Seems that this event overlaps with the Friday Harbor gathering.

How does one post pictures into text?

Making it fast and easy to put pictures in posts has a tendency to fill up a forum with lots of random crap. Making it an effort to post an image of something means that the poster has to think the image is relevant enough to the topic to make doing the work to include it worth the trouble.

How does one post pictures into text?

I found that I have to post a picture to my album, then I can link to it in a post. You might be able to link to a picture somewhere else (e.g. Google Photos) by posting the url of the photo using the url tags.

    Steps in the cockpit

If it were me, I wouldn't rely on the lip for the side pockets on a 22 as a support for something like steps. It's not meant to carry large loads.

    C-BRATS 2025 Calendar: Requesting Photos!

I'd add that usually if you want really good pictures of your boat for a calendar or whatever, you need to go out planning to do that. This involves straightening up and cleaning the boat, getting to a good location, planning how to shoot it, and waiting for the right conditions. Even then it...

Power match for 22, 23 2nd 25, what seems appropriate

Twins on a 22 are between 40 and 60 hp each. Some people put 115 on 22s and up to 200hp on a 25. It depends on how you use your boat. If you want to take long cruises (i.e. heavily loaded) at higher speeds you're going to want to go on the high side for motor hp. On shorter cruises (i.e...
