    Make it shine.

The active ingredient of all of these is an acid. Oxylic acid works very well. Use the crystals and make a satuated solution. You can get a lifetime supply for $20 at most paint and hardware stores.

    Kicker motor fuel set-up

If your "kicker" is only for trolling, and you don't consider it a "Get home motor". then yes, you can run off the main tank. But as an emergency back up, the fuel, battery etc should all independant of the main engine. That redundancy allows start up and "go" in case of loss of the main...

    BayStar Maintenance Issue

The rebuild kits are even cheaper than having any component rebuit. There is no rocket science. The kit includes seals for the cylinder, plus tool necessary for pin wrench. The helm pump is aso reasonably simple to rebuild.

West Coast of Vancouver Island by trailer

We agree that the outside of Vancouver Island is a great trip. We did it in our Cal 46 before heading South to Florida, after 4 years in the PNW. The C Dory is a better vessel for this trip. A trip around Vancouver Island is a great adventure--lots of places to stop and explore, still off...

    Fuel tank swelling

If you use a canvas shade, then be sure there is adequate air flow under it. I tend to let my tanks like this vent to the athmosphere....better than a burst tank.

    Getting Fuel Tank Tested

To add to what Colby posted and in his reference posts, when that tank is out of the boat--which it should be if you are going to do a full "redo" of the tank. There may be pitting, and perhaps even thinning enough to have to replace the tank or the bottom of the tank. Another option is to...

    77’ Aluminum Yacht for $125k

I had that fantisy when I was looking for a sailboat in the mid 1960's with a budget of $15,000. I saw that Endemyon a 75' M Class sloop initially owned by Donald Douglas was for sale. She had been rerigged as a cutter, then Schooner and finaly a ketch. Coming back from a Tahati race she was...

Question re Optima yellow top batteries

If both are 8.6 volts, they are probably shot. You can put any type of an automotive battery charger on them for 24 hours and see if they hold a charge. They should read 12.7 volts +/_ 0.1 volt. If they hold a charge, then take to any auto parts store and have them load tested. Most marine...

    Suzuki DF200ATX3 Fuel Economy

That pitch is appropriate for the Suzuki 200. The Honda should have been a 15" pitch. Different gear rations between the two outboards. You could go to 20" pitch, but I would be satisfied, especially if you run a heavy boat.

    Shifting Cable stretched

I would do both shifting cables and throttle cables. Be sure you get the correct length. They are farily easy to follow through.

    Shifting Cable stretched

Maybe I am missing something--but all of the mechanical steering on the 22 C Dory I have owned were push / pull single cable, and all ran on the Starboard side. The other option is going to hydraulic steering. If. you are going to want an auto pilot, the hydraulic version is far better than...

C-22 Cruiser with moisture in the transom

Thank you for the detailed post. How thick was the Coosa board? Why did you use 1208 rather than 1708 rather than 1708? How did you finish off the top of the transom, before reapplying the plastic cap? How did you adhere the plastic cap to the top of the transom? Did your physical...

best place to buy garmin electonics

I recieved a product, where the box had been opened, the product used and set up--and some pieces missing from the "GPS store". I had the devil of a time returning and having that product replaced. I had to send the original back, fill out reports, and then wait. GPS store is BBB acredited...

Flushing the motor in brackish waters

It would depend on the salinity of the area of the Hudson river that boat was used on. I believe this River is tidal, so some may depend on the state of the tide when the engine is last run. I would look at the thermostat. That is the easiest; non distructive way of looing at the water passages.

    Introduction and lots of questions!

Dave, Welcome aboard Cbrats. It is a very congeal boating community as you may have gathered when you have been reading the site in the past. It is also a wonderful extended family, with life long friendships. The more you use your boat, the more comfident you will become, and the more your...

    Suzuki DF200ATX3 Fuel Economy

Mounting hole and trim are the two factors, as well as boat weight. Is the anti ventillation plate running right on the surface when running on a plane? What is max speed and RPM at wide open throttle? It is possible for these boats to pick up a lot of weight from the water under the cockpit...
