    San Juans 2012 underway

Once again thanking everyone for all the advice on the previous "getting to the San Juans" thread. Got a late start from Bainbridge this morning, with a less than perfect weather forecast, but figured we'd get to Pt Townsend and have a peek into the Strait and stay the night in Pt T if needed...

    Astoria Sturgeon?

We managed one keeper over Memorial Day weekend up by Bonneville dam as well. The shad numbers are really starting to increase, so I think we might head there at the end of June instead of Astoria. Oversize have to be following all those shad. Nice fish though! About 42"?

    Getting to the San Juans...

Again, thanks to all for the great input. We've decided to let the weather dictate--if good, we'll run up from Bainbridge or PT. If not, we'll trailer. After that, who knows? :) Spent some time cruising the Gulf Coast, and I have to say the flexibility and not knowing was my favorite part...

    Getting to the San Juans...

Just spent some time reading the thread about tide rips and currents at cattle pass. How would you define a tide rip? When I go through agate pass with strong current, there are numerous eddys and swirls that move the boat around but they are nothing uncomfortable or dangerous. If the wind...

    Getting to the San Juans...

Derail away! Some of the best threads are ones that have been hijacked. As a Puget Sound resident, I'd like to know too! b

    Getting to the San Juans...

OK, thanks to all for the great comments. I looked up "Gunkholing in the San Juan Islands" and ordered a used copy from amazon from 2003, which was the newest I could find. I have the number for the author, but the number is disconnected and email bounces. Any idea whether there is a newer...

    Getting to the San Juans...

Howdy all, Heading out for our first cruise in the San Juans next week, Thu-Mon. I've perused the many threads here about destinations, but feel free to add your favorite "must-see's". I'm actually wondering about getting there in the first place. We live on Bainbridge Island (aka Braindead...

    Bronze porthole install details

Hi Chuck, Yes, the first owner ordered the boat with no back window, but only on the starboard side. The port side has the normal window. There is a slight ridge on the right side interior around where the window would have been, so I think that the hole was there and was filled back...

    Bronze porthole install details

Hey everyone, thought I'd create a new topic with the correct metal in the name, and with photos of the actual installation, as an archival piece for the next dude/dudette who decides it's a good idea to cut a giant hole in his/her boat... For starters, thanks to all for the great info on the...

    Butane--how full when empty?

OK, got in there today and pulled everything apart. Was able to blow butane from the canister to the reg, so disassembled the reg completely except for the rotating brass shaft (seems to be a press fit). Ran WD-40 through that from all sides, and reassembled everything. Wrapped the wire from...

    Butane--how full when empty?

Correct, built in Kiss stove. Man, I just looked at my last post, and the dictation software really didn't do a great job this time around! Maybe some compressed air tomorrow... b

    Butane--how full when empty?

No word from the manufacturer yet, but I pulled the stove out today. For starters, the pie o starter is totally burned and turned into ash--yeah hat a wire remaining there. I took apart the regulator, and all rubber parts are very pliable and nothing seems dried out. So I am guessing there is...

    Butane--how full when empty?

Thanks fOr the tip. Tech guy is out, so the president of the cOmpany is supposed to be calling me back. (!) Will let you know how it goes. The stove lit for three seconds this morning. b

    Butane--how full when empty?

Tried shaking it and that didn't work. I was manipulating the cartridge with my thumbs, and kind of twisted it one way or the other and I heard the gas fill the line. I was able to light it for one or two seconds, two times. Then, nothing further. The stove has sat unused for a while, I wonder...

    Butane--how full when empty?

Okay, I have purchased a new cartridge, and it doesn't work either. What lead to the problem was that I put the old cartridge in a little crooked, and the collar was bent when I closed the plastic cap. When I look down inside where the cartridge goes, I don't see anything obviously damaged. The...

    Butane--how full when empty?

The butane stove was working flawlessly this morning, and suddenly quit. the canister is still about 25% full, but I don't know how much gas is left when they are considered empty. I don't have any other good explanation. Anyone out there able to save my morning coffee? bmc

Cove with waterfall on Vancouver/San Juan islands?

Teakerme looks exactly like what I remember seeing. Do you know if the water temp is warmer? I'm also intrigued by the hot springs at Tofino--wonder if we can anchor/dinghy over to the pools. Thanks you guys! bmc
