Cove with waterfall on Vancouver/San Juan islands?

Hey everyone, I had someone once tell me about a really cool little cove, and I'm drawing a total blank on location and name. They even showed me a photo. I want to say it was the east side of Vancouver Island. They were on a sailboat charter, and they got there early, and there were...

    Brass porthole install

@Kevin, I didn't find those, thanks a lot! That does make it look like the cabinsides are indeed thinner, maybe 3/8" or so. Best, Ben McC

What, Jay? You didn't think my "drippy gutter thingy" was nautical? :) bmc

    Brass porthole install

@Sunbeam I couldn't even begin to tell you how well thought-out this boat is. It was rigged by Les at EQ, and I am also blown away at how nicely the rigging was done. It is meticulous throughout; I feel very lucky to be the caretaker at this point. I would have also just gone with stainless...

    Brass porthole install

Here are some pics with the mockup, and showing some of the details on the boat. Doug did some really nice work. The bollard is probably strong enough to pick up the whole boat--multiple bolts, cross pins, etc.

    Brass porthole install

I realize this morning, I need to figure out how thick the hull is in the cuddy area. Is it possible that one of you with existing ports could take a quick measurement for me? This would be roughly at the front edge of the windows, in the smooth upper portion of the cuddy cabin. The ports I...

    Brass porthole install

Copy all the above. I did some investigation and it is going to be a very tight install. I think I'd better drag the boat up to NFM and have them take a look--especially given the thickness of the decks and all that, it will need to be just perfect to fit correctly above the line. Below would...

    Brass porthole install

Called NFM, they are bronze portholes. She was awesome to talk to, by the way. She said that they could easily handle the pressure below the gunwale line, but that above the line probably makes more sense. Same reasons that you all have stated here. Thanks again, and I'll post pictures as I go. bmc

    Brass porthole install

Wow, great information guys! Thank you very much. I will check on whether they are bronze or brass, and we'll take it from there. The previous owner has a teak and brass or bronze theme going, so I'd like to use these if possible. Best, bmc

    Brass porthole install

Good morning everyone, The previous owner of my 22 gave me three portholes with it. One 8 inch circle, and two 5 inch circles, all from New Found Metals in PT. The 8 inch circle goes over the galley, he had the window there left off the hull when it was made. That one will be pretty...

Greetings to all, Looks like we were priced a bit high, have reduced price to reflect book value. Feel free to contact me with questions! Will be adding more pictures after lunch. Ben ----------- This boat is light grey, and has caught a lot of shrimp, crab, salmon and sturgeon! Add your...

    Astoria Sturgeon?

As another option to the halibut, I took a trip to Astoria last year to try to fish the estuary for sturgeon. I'm well familiar with fishing in the Columbia below Bonneville dam, but didn't really know where to fish in Astoria. We hung out fairly close to town just up river from the bridge, with...

    Feeling dense...halibut season?

OK, for some reason I had it in my head that halibut was a June fishery, but it looks like most areas close June 2, except Seiku (June 28). Are their other opportunities for halibut during June, and how is the fishing around Seiku/area 5? Alternatively, how about fishing for lings/cod/etc. in...

Transition to the Dark Side is complete...

Thanks Steve and everyone. I will probably add permatrims and then have the same combination I'm used to. I also really like to be able to drop the bow into heavy seas. Spent Friday and Saturday on the water, caught lots of shrimp, and just really enjoyed the new ride. The twin e-tecs are...

Transition to the Dark Side is complete...

I'll look into permatrims. My 16 and 19 both had them; 19 had trim tabs too and I loved them. New 22 has tabs as well. We put about 500 hours on the first two boats, so I'm sure the 22 will be well-loved also! bmc

Transition to the Dark Side is complete...

Well, I have now become the latest C-Brat to make the progression from 16 to 19 to 22. I have no regrets however, each boat was appropriate at the time we purchased it, based on family size, garage space, and budget. I also didn't go looking for a 22, it came looking for me! It was more like a...
