    AIS Transceivers

I have a Vesper 6000. I looked at everything and made a giant complex cheat sheet to try to keep things straight in my head as to which unit offered what I wanted/needed. I then learned that my first choice was out of stock everywhere. So much for time consuming research. I went with a...

    Sandys counterclockwise circumnavigation Vancouver Island

I've had really good luck deploying mosquito coils in the little stainless holders below. Put it out on the swim step or in the splash well immediately upon dropping anchor. When I was on Lake Ozette, I would light it before I even dropped the anchor. I have no-see-um netting on the windows...

Adding a movie to photo album?

The reawakening of El and Bill's "What I Should Know Before Buying a Boat" thread made me think of this again. In that thread are links to movies in their photo album. I tried to load a movie into my photo album and got a message to "wait." So I let it sit overnight to load a movie into the...

    Sandys counterclockwise circumnavigation Vancouver Island

That never bothered me too much. In fact, I think it might help when travelling at hull speed. With a heavy bow, my 16 doesn't squat until 4.5 knots. Woohoo, another .2 knots on hull speed! One problem with a heavy bow is bow steer when on plane. If I'm fully loaded and slap something (like...

25/26 vs 22 in rough waters

Those actual GPH numbers are why I have a 2000 GPH pump with smooth wall hose in my CD 16. I figure that gets me a realistic 600 GPH, about the same rate I could do with a bucket (probably not for an hour). For a serious wave over the stern, GPH likely won't help. I would have to rely on PFD...

Once Again - LIthium Battery Install?

The diagram brings up a question I've had for awhile about adding a LiO battery dedicated to only my induction stovetop. If the VSR is eliminated, then the DC to DC charger goes only from the FLA battery to the LiO battery. I assume that the DC to DC charger is one-way, i.e., the LiO can't...

    c dory 22 composting head

I use a Gamma Seal on a 2 gallon bucket (because the cd 16 is tiny). They are a little harder to find. Instead of peat, I use Poo Powder. It can absorb a rather amazing amount of liquid. That said, I tend to use a discrete direct overboard system for #1. I tested little composting trash...

Can't work on the boat this morning because of newborn

Right on the path to the garage this year. That's an alder leaf behind it to give some perspective. http://www.c-brats.com/modules.php?full ... _photo.php Some day I'm going to remember how to post pictures.

    manual windshield wipers

I did. The original passenger side wiper was manual. It required me to rise out the the seat and stretch over to the wiper handle. Not a big problem except if I waited too long and let salt spray dry. I simply bought the same motor/wiper as the helm side and spliced into the wire.

    05/12 - 05/14 - Friday Harbor C-Brats Get-Together

I remember seeing that somebody "gave up" their MMSI number so that it could be used as a group number for C-Brats. If the number still works, it might be nice to post it here (I couldn't find it in a search) so that those attending FH can keep in touch with the group. Learning how this is...

    05/12 - 05/14 - Friday Harbor C-Brats Get-Together

As per usual, I haven't locked in to whether I'm going. I was thinking about trailering to Bellingham as in the past, but I'm having troubles with trailer lights and finally gave up. Should have checked out the trailer lights earlier. Since the dealer installed them I'm going back to the...

    Cabin heater vent tube construction

For the heating duct, I bought a kit like linked below (after checking it was the right size). When shopping, I thought that some of the "big name" heaters used a weird proprietary size, so be careful or get a bushing that changes size. For my big boat, I bought a venting kit that included a...

    Cabin heater vent tube construction

I have the smallest Espar heater, so the exhaust is only 3/4 inch. There is commercially available stainless flex tubing in that size. I only used a small section of that (for alignment allowing the rest to be straight pipe) before changing to 3/4 inch copper plumbing pipe. The copper (and...
