    Introduction and lots of questions!

Dave, Welcome aboard Cbrats. It is a very congeal boating community as you may have gathered when you have been reading the site in the past. It is also a wonderful extended family, with life long friendships. The more you use your boat, the more comfident you will become, and the more your...

    Suzuki DF200ATX3 Fuel Economy

Mounting hole and trim are the two factors, as well as boat weight. Is the anti ventillation plate running right on the surface when running on a plane? What is max speed and RPM at wide open throttle? It is possible for these boats to pick up a lot of weight from the water under the cockpit...

16 foot Jon Boat attempts the Great loop speed record.

I agree with the "stunt", and at times dangerous to himself and others. When he fell asleep and ran the boat up into the weeds/shore, it could have hit another boat, or a person on shore. On the other hand, it did take a lot of internal strength to push him to take some of the long and...

    Trial Run with Spouce

A fire blanket is difficult to deploy in a C Dory, although you are to be commended if you have one. I prefer the small liquid/gas type of fire extinguisher as used in our kitchen for potential grease fires. I kept two of those by the galley, just outboard of the helm seat. Easy to grab, and...

    Yellowstone Lake

What Jay has observed at Yellowstone, is true for most of the Mountain West (both Rockies and Sierra). I am more familiar with the Sierra, which I first visited in 1941 to Lake Mary and June Lake, near Mammoth Mountain. The same is true with Tuolumne Meadows above Yosemite, and the Valley itself.

    Trailer Lights

I use the 3 way connectors--they are not that hard to find, but no heat shrink wrap--So I use electrical tape, and then the stretchy kind of rubber sealing tape available and used by electricians for out door use. You can make the commection waterproof with that. There are issues with...

    Trailer Lights

I use marine grade wire. Ancor heat shrink/adhesive crimps, AND a heat skrink tubing over that. I run LED trailer lights, which are sealed into the fixture, and leave the lights plugged in. (Including running lights. I also put tail and brake/turn up on the top of the pvc guide-ons.. It...

He finished the loop at about 8:51 PM 31 July.

16 foot Jon Boat attempts the Great loop speed record.

He has about 60 miles to go, maybe a little more. Wind is minimal on the bay. He should finish before dark. I probably will not go to watch the finish--dinner time...

    Truck/Trailer Storage

'With a late October/November you need to check to see if fuel docks are open. Some places start to close at the end of September or before. However many Loopers cannot enter the Gulf of Mexico until after November 1 because of insurance and hurricane restrictions. For the length of time you...

16 foot Jon Boat attempts the Great loop speed record.

The last few days revealed a major problem. There were several cracks in the bottom of the welded alumium jon boat, as well as cracks on the side to the transom. Apparently he had been running that way, and bailing the boat out. He got it repaired by yesterday. Took a long time to find a TIG...

New guy seeking 22 Cruiser of 23 Venture

Buck, now officially a owner / C Brat. Congratulations... That is a short time (relative) to go from wanting to owning. You will enjoy the boat, and the folks that gather, both virutally, and in person at the various C Dory gatherings. That is a big part of C Dory/C Brat "experience. Love to...

Best prop for Suzuki DF 175’s on a Tomcat 255

Joe made that post about 6 years ago. I don't see any posts by him since 2022. For some reason I thought that he had sold his boat. I ran 21" pitch props on my with 150's and got close to 50 mph--about 48 to 49 light boat with ideal circumstances...So you should do well with the...

Will, thank you! Good reminder to contribute again. What is this site worth to each of you? I read it every day--and is one of the best boating sites on the internet! Also if I give something away, or sell it boating related, one of the caviats is that the recepient make a contribution of...

    Cockpit Floor Grating Build

It looks nice. I would put a couple of coats of UV inhibiting Polyurethane "varnish" to protect the epoxy from UV degradation. I have used epoxy saturated wood, with and without the UV inhibitors---and it is a very dramatic difference in longivity.

C-22 Cruiser with moisture in the transom

Unfortunately that happens. In my "new" 2006 TC255, there was no caulk between the cabin roof, and the forward, aft and side walls of the pilot house.... with a lot more defects, such as the shower was draining into the bilge, because whom wired the sump pump and tried to adapt a #18 wire to a...

I Built a Brand-New Cabin Interior, With Photos!

Thank you for the reply. We used Nidacore--lightest material for the cockpit floor in the 2003 C Dory 25, where it had to be replaced. Cost should be about the same as Coosa 20. However we have a local source so there is some savings on shipping. One layer of 1708 under, 2 layers on top...

I Built a Brand-New Cabin Interior, With Photos!

Great redesign and craftsmanship. I love the very good documentation with wonderful documentation in photos. Well done, Sir! Did you cut limber holes in the bilge supports for the floor? Was there any compromise of the aft cabin bulkhead lower laminate, or compromise of the balsa in the...

16 foot Jon Boat attempts the Great loop speed record.

The jon boat was on Lake Erie last evening. He anchored in Candian waters, behind a spit. Not sure if he knows, he cannot anchor in Canadian waters without clearing customs. Or maybe he did phone in?? nothing to indicate that that I have seen. He got a later start--perhaps because he had to...
