    Single Axle Trailers

Most if not all of the hardware has nylon washers/spacers to help prevent galvanic corrosion between the steel hardware and the aluminum superstructure on the better quality trailers I have seen and worked on. I don't think putting an anode on a steel axle would help with corrosion as they were...

Winterizing question / in salt water

You can do what you say if you want. But, if you walk the harbor in Homer or Seward in January, you will not see garbage bags around the engine lower unit with it sitting in the water. They're pretty much all up and out of the water. I use my boat in the winter months and after the outboards...

Another Nameplate Rating Discussion for the 22' cruiser

Don't back out of the deal because of this small stuff. There are lots of CD 22 boats (like mine) with twin outboards and 3 heavy batteries out back. I wouldn't buy a new kicker either. Give it a chance. I have twins and a kicker for trolling at times! Oh dear.....I know....But it's just fine. I...

Cracked! - Need a lower unit for Honda BF40 (1997)

I would replace the whole assembly. It's not cheap....but you get to start out new. As far as what happened to yours? So many things could have happened....but if you haven't hit anything with it, it would not be the first one that corroded where the packing nut that threads into case (the one...

2nd station / fly ridge on cabin top

I would advise against this as well. These are light narrow beam boats having a mild keel. Many trailerable flybridge boats have an aggressive keel and a 10 + beam. They are also on triple axle trailers and weigh 3-4 times as much as the 22. The point? Because they need it to keep it from...

6" is fine for most reels.

    Trailer Issues

I hate trailers and I'm sorry yours is broken. But, if I am seeing this correctly, the butt end of the trailer where the failure happened is also the cross member tying it all together. And without it, it's free to move all over the place - at least, for the most part. It's hard to tell, could...

Handling odditties - what are your strategies?

Flat bottom boats have low (ish) speed limits. I won't give a hard fast rule with it because there are a bunch of variables....but it is mostly due to a ratio between the surface of the hull, weight, lift, and the coefficient of friction at a given speed. Anyway...whatever...nobody...

    Twin Honda 50 feedback needed

Yamaha makes a great outboard. But from what I have seen, they are not very competitive with pricing.

    2003 Honda 40's no power

I just worked on a yamaha with the same issues. It would idle fine, but giving it some throttle and it would not make adequate power. The carbs were full of gunk and it took hours to get them cleaned up. Leaving gasoline in them allows the various metals to have a chemical reaction party...

Is a Marine Survey of an older C-Dory worth it?

Bob is correct about the sea trial and survey information. However, I wouldn't feel too bad about it slipping away as another one will come up around that price point. I do suspect that one was a good one though. I also saw a bit of dialog inside the ad about going down to 28k. While it never...

Is a Marine Survey of an older C-Dory worth it?

If you don't have a lot of experience with boats, it is always a great idea to have a pro look at it.

Talk me out of buying a C-Dory 22 Cruiser

This won't help.....there are not many 22 foot boats (or under) I would trade a CD 22 Cruiser for in all honesty. The smaller alloy boats? Not a chance. And it's not because of what they are made of, it's because you generally lose a place to sleep, cook, and stare out the window while sitting...

Repowering 16' angler, thinking of yamaha 70 4-stroke

Just throwing it out there....but your 50 hp 2 stroke might only have 50 hp at the powerhead and not the prop. The modern 4 stroke outboards are rated at the prop. This difference may very well be enough. As a side note....5-6 folks on a CD 22 is really cramped, I can't imagine a CD 16....yikes...

    carbon monoxide buildup

I have had other gasses make my CO2 detector sound the alarm bells. I know it technically should not do that, but it has. It seems simple enough and certainly cheap/free to just pull the battery to see if the condition stops...if possible. I wouldn't be surprised it's just time for a new CO2...

How to loose a caliper on your trailer disk brake system..

From my experience working in the RV world in a different life, you can be rest assured you are getting the least experienced guy they have working on your trailer bearings, your brakes, and changing your generator/coach oil...basically you're getting the lot boy with a key to a toolbox. Even...

Lithium battery house battery charging/alternator overload?

Of course. Is there even an FLA involved though? I'm not really sure. I suspect Bob is right about the voltage drop issue though. There isn't much voltage drop, but there isn't much voltage to play with in 12v systems.

Lithium battery house battery charging/alternator overload?

Not using them as a starting battery is a general recommendation from the engineers responsible for designing the battery. Will they start stuff? Yeah, as long as they BMS doesn't sense a short circuit and shut off the power. The little outboards don't draw much so it's inside its programmed...

    Short trip towing

It's amazing how much new trucks costs....totally out of my league. They're are tons of cheaper options out there if you're willing to go with gas instead of diesel.
