How is the C Dory in 5-8' swells?

What Bob said.... The answer is "it all depends on the prevailing conditions". You could be in 5-6' seas with Gale winds that would be terrifying and present a high capsize risk. You can also be in measured 10' swells with no wind, long period, and a very round shape that would be like moving...

Outboard "rattles" at high RPM and it didn't used

I too would suggest starting with the gas. Start with the easy stuff... Bump is relative - from what you described it would not sound like a damaging bump if you just touched your skeg. You mentioned the sound of old cars...like when you step on the gas and hear rattling? The engine pros...

To much of a good thing

Good luck with all that. Last year we had record flooding in MA. The lowest point of our basement had 18" of water. This past winter was the 6th highest snowfall in recorded history in Boston and I expected floods this year. I installed an additional sump hole (party with a jack hammer and...

    No Juice :(

You have a short or a fuse trip - as Charlie mentioned possibly a disconnected ground or a corroded wire connection. It's amazing how simple these fixes can (sometimes) be. I had the same experience on a former boat - all was fine the day before them boom - no juice the next morning. I...

First night out in my 16, any tips?

I don't know Jim - I might be inclined to avoid Gatorade and Mountain Dew bottles for natures call. It could be a startling first sip of these drinks the following day  Ha!

Ha ha - the original poster was williamsdf - hopefully he did not offend himself with his own reply

    Selling your boat safely

When I sold my former boat I drafted a purchase and sale agreement (signed by both parties) which included the agreement that title would be transferred after the bank check had cleared with funds deposited in my account. I waited about 5 days after I deposited the check before handing over the...

    anchoring and bad weather

Ditto...NEVER tie your anchor rode to anything but a bow cleat. Make sure you have a good amount of chain on your anchor before line. The chain will help dig the anchor into the ground and serves as a catenary (arc to help absorb shock when the wind blows). 7:1 is a safe rule of thumb - for...

    Susuki Tilt Limiter Cam

Thanks for the replies. It can very easily be bumped and I must have done it when installing the new steering system. It is a small plastic piece that rotates very easily - like turning the knob on a car stereo. Took 2 seconds once I knew what to look for and voila - lifts to the usual spot.

    Susuki Tilt Limiter Cam

Thanks for the replies. Perhaps I accidentally bumped it when installing the new steering system this winter. I will check it out again today. My shop manual has a picture but it's very small.

    TC255 Questions

No worries - we love to talk about boats here! 1). I would personally opt for the 150. No one ever regrets too much power but often regrets too little. There is a considerable displacement difference, at least with the Suzuki's, between even the 140 and the 150. I would also suggest 4...

    Susuki Tilt Limiter Cam

Hi gentlemen, Sorry to ping an old thread but today I splashed Napoleon and my port engine will not trim all the way up. It goes up and down fine to this point then stops. My starboard engine goes all the way up as usual. Where do I find the mechanism that regulates the trim level? I've...

    25' C-Dory Sedan vs TomCat

Hi Ed, It was me that measured 13' even from the road to the top of my GPS receiver. I was using a light bar mounted above my radar mount to hold the GPS receiver. The very tip of this otherwise incredibly strong mount has a 2" plastic threaded piece to hold the GPS receiver. After three...

    25' C-Dory Sedan vs TomCat

I went through the exact same decision three seasons ago. I started a thread back then discussing my observations based on test rides in the same conditions. Without repeating much of what has been written above, the biggest thing for me was the ride. I made sure my wife and a dive buddy...

Current Factory procedure: Balsa Core Penetrations?

I too am surprised that there have not been more soft core problems. I temporarily looked elsewhere due to the balsa used in C-Dory and the consensus they were not sealing core penetrations properly. I obviously decided to return! I have been very diligent to follow the Dr. Bob approved...

Tomcat 255 Gross Weight Don't Make Sense To Me

The consensus on rig weight (boat/trailer) is 10K. I did not check the thread mentioned above but I was among those that started such a thread - the C25 and TC255 weights when I began researching C-Dory's were all incorrect and low. Not to be confused with weight, the USCG approved...

Current Factory procedure: Balsa Core Penetrations?

Million dollar boat manufacturers don't do this correctly and I'm sure the current C-Dory process is no different from what you describe. Exposed core with cheap/easy slathering of something like bostic. With time and motivation we can all fix this poor work fortunately.

Ideas for removing 3M4200 from Sunbrella seat cushion

I ended up with some cured 4200 on my first mate seat. I tried hot water, and acetone with toothbrush and nothing worked. Acetone works great on the hard surfaces but the soft material would not release it. Suggestions short of having my seat re-covered with Sunbrella? Thanks

    The Economy

For me personally - better. My employer had lay offs, a temporary suspension of some benefits, and no raises the year prior. Full benefits and raises resumed this year with no lay offs. Fingers crossed for us all...
