    Angler 16 door canvas

Since you are in Oregon, King Marine Canvas in Seattle does a lot of the canopies for C-Dory. You might want to check with them.

    05/08 - 05/11 - 2025 Friday Harbor C-Brats Get-Together

There has been some interest in my electric C-Dory by this group, and several C-Brats have asked if I were coming. Unfortunately I will be unable to attend. That weekend is Mother's Day, and our daughter had already purchased tickets for a show that weekend. This was before the dates for the...

    Update on electric C-Dory

P.S. I see you live in Bellingham. If you are ordering a new C-Dory from NMI (in Bellingham) be sure to tell them you are interested in electric. They were very helpful and I was able to customize my build to accommodate the electric. For example, I was able to get a reduced price since I...

    Update on electric C-Dory

I have two 3kW motors which can easily get me to hull speed. I cruise at about 5.1-5.2 mph using about 2 to 2.1 kW. I posted a graph of my speed vs. power consumption in my album (WATT NOW). Maximum speed is 6.8 mph which uses 5.8 kW of power (my max). Since I have 20 kWh of energy in my...

    Guiltless Remodel Job

I agree, you should absolutely try things out before making changes. We spent some time at the factory moving around and lying down in a boat that was almost finished with the standard package.

    Guiltless Remodel Job

My wife and I were also not comfortable in the V berth of the 22 cruiser. The issue was sitting up to get out the fo'c'sle. If we were to sleep with our heads towards the stern, one of us would end up kicking the other when trying to rotate around to get out. If we were to sleep with our heads...

Oops the energy stored in a gallon of gas is 33kWh . I put a comma in instead of a period. The other numbers are ok

Bob, you are correct. I have to cruise like a sailboat; watching wind and tide. BUT, I have been doing this for 27 years now in Puget Sound (all electric). This is a different kind of cruising than high speed planing, and I find there is increased interest in this kind of cruising. I do have...

    composting toilet

Dealing with a porta potty or other kind of toilet on a small boat like the 22' can be a chore and the smells are never masked adequately. It mostly the smell of the solutions one has to put into the porta potty. Using a plastic bag works well for us. There are a number different designs...

Bob, I quite agree the enclosed cockpit is great when cruising in a deep keel large boat. Unfortunately the 22' C-Dory is light and has a flat bottom. That means that it has very little lateral resistance to cross winds. I have found that I have to roll up the top and fold it around the...

Mid-September is when we stop cruising here in Puget Sound. The boating season sort of shuts down for us after the Port Townsend Wooden Boat Festival. The wind and rain move into their winter pattern so we travel on land in our RV trailer. We plan a few day trips in May but our cruising season...

So here is the question: Who actually uses the clear side panels during the summer? I really don't use them in the summer because they quickly overheat the cockpit when the sun comes out. I store them at home for the summer and put them on only when the boat is in winter storage on its...

I see one potential problem with your latest design. The aft strut is too long. When you fold it forward, it will extend quite a bit above the cabin top. I think a three bow design would be adequate.

Whatever you design I still think having the system with one frame on the pivot is critical so you can fold the system while either trailering or cruising. I know from experience with my earlier boats that it is a real pain to zipper the top to the frame every time one wants to use it...

With the top zippered to the cabin top, I often unzip the top about 18 inches and fold the edge back. That way I can get in and out without having to bend down (I am 6'1"). Our frames are stainless steel and quite strong, but should not be used as a handhold. The strength of the frame is not...
