    Trip report: Cordova,AK

Hi Dan, Was that little bakery/pizza place just across from the slips open? How long did it take you to make the run each way? Cordova is on our list for next summer. It is a great village to walk through. Pat

    Mysterious Black Spots

Those spots could also be organic residue from trees or insects. Have you tried solvents designed to get rid of that kind of stuff? Pat

    Trailer "disolved" after 23 yrs.

Jack, After looking into trailer prices last year, I know you have a bargain. My old trailer is getting ready for the bonepile, too. Would you mind telling us who is the dealer you bought the trailer from? Thanks, Pat

    AK Brats on PWS?

Thanks for the report, Dan. It didn't hurt us that much not getting out on the water, I guess. By the way, who does the service on your Suzuki? Pat

    AK Brats on PWS?

Aw man! :cry House projects, boat projects that I put off too long, yard projects... Who said retirement is a time to slow down? We won't get down to PWS until late May or early June. But we'll get there. Have a great float, Dan Pat

    C-dory Factory

Yah! The factory did the same for me last year. This is a great group to do business with. Now.. if Toyota had the same philosophy... Pat

    Mushroom ID

I just noticed you are in Jefferson OR. I used to live in Lebanon. The mushroom people at OSU are pretty active. I think they used to put on a yearly workshop. The mushrooms you have really like to grow in burn pile areas. Up here in Alaska, the commercial pickers come up and scour the areas...

    Mushroom ID

Morels come in a couple of different styles. Both of the photos in this thread show true morels. Delicious when floured and sauteed in butter. There are quite a few false morel varieties out there, too. I think most of them are dangerous to eat. Some of them look a lot like the true varieties...

Keep Up With Me, You Slackers!

AstoriaDave, I've been viewing the Bartender site almost as long as I have been a C-Brat. Such great boats. They seem almost indestructible. I saw a 24 footer in Cordova that had been sunk, then raised, patched and fitted with a 10 horse diesel. The guy lives on the boat and uses it to travel...

    Equalizer hitch

Dan, More good advice, Thanks, man. The trailer sits level now. I had already added the height adjustment before we went down to Haines to pick up the boat. I have the weights to add to the trailer tongue to test for tongue weight, too. Wow! Thirty below at the house this morning. At least the...

    Equalizer hitch

Thanks again, Steve, That's a simple and elegant way to get the tongue weight. Come break up, I'll be weighing the tongue. With any luck, I can just shift loads forward in the boat while towing to get a more even ride. Pat

    Equalizer hitch

Steve, That's good advice. I will trailer over to the scales at the truck stop as soon as the snow melts enough to pull the boat out and get the tongue weight. I might as well weigh the whole unit, too. From other threads and posts, it shouldn't go much more than 3500 lbs, though. Pat

    Equalizer hitch

Lloyds, Flapbreaker and SEA3PO OK, now I have some things to go on. First: it could be that the wheels were put in the wrong place. The boat was one of a number of classics sold in Juneau in the early 80's. There isn't a whole lot of road to travel in the Juneau area. The previous owners may...

    Equalizer hitch

Maybe you can give me some advice about my set-up. I have a single axle trailer to tow the 22 footer. The tongue weight doesn't seem to make the end of the 1/2 ton pickup sag much, but when I tow over bumpy roads (and that's about all we have up here,) the back end of the truck bobs up and down...

What "non-boating" interests do you have?

When we have enough $$ scraped together, we like to visit out of the way places in Mexico. Other than that, there is fly tying, rod building, the first stages of stained glass making, volunteering at the UAF museum as a "docent," lots of sewing (mostly for grandbabies,) planning and going on...

IT"S MORE THAN JUST FREEZING IN FAIRBANKS!

Can I jump in on this one? Right you are. When it gets that chilly here in North Pole, it gets to be "braggin' weather." At least it ain't windy. And the aurora is spectacular, too. My little boat is shivering underneath her tent right about now. Now you know why we have such a great...
