    New Suzuki outboards?

Interesting thread. I am considering buying two motors right now, a 6hp tohatsu or nissan and the 2.5 suzuki. And have been looking at the website mentioned and also saw the suzuki on cabela's for $699 I believe . And yes price is important for me with limited boat bucks, I' will spend a bit...

    16' Angler tips/tricks welcome

16Pounder- Where is it you do your fishing with your 16? You have some great pics, and nice fish! I was hoping to plan some sort of a long fishing trip with the 16 for this summer or next. Sark

    16' Angler tips/tricks welcome

Ahh.... they are just pulling your chain. First off, does your angler have the built in pocket in the front of the motor well? I noticed some years did not, my 89 does. Very handy. For fish storage I use fish bags, or specifically Katch koolers simply because of availibility out here. But any...

Halibut on Blackmouth opener (Possession bar)

Nice, now if only you can duplicate that on the opener. I remember hearing from Ron Gardener, that they start migrating back out in the spring and we just catch them in the straight on their way out. All my butt's have been in the straight, sure would be nice to do it closer to home. Especially...

Looking to buy your old Pro-release downrigger clip

Troller, I hear ya, whatever works use it :thup . If you have 5 different successful fisherman, chances are at least three of them are using completely different setups anyway. That's the mystery of fishing. I used to bring my clips up on the cable when I was beginning, as that is what Salmon...

Looking to buy your old Pro-release downrigger clip

Just an aside if they are "simply the best" why is the company going out of business? Ah Yes, I know, I've heard it before ..."you're using it wrong." I fished one for a probably about a season. I know how you have to wrap it correctly, and watch it to make sure it doesn't flip as it is going...

Looking to buy your old Pro-release downrigger clip

I heard that they were not being made anymore, and then read somewhere else that they were now being produced by another company. Personally I think they are mediocre, they do work good if you use braid and you get everything straight, I like many others broke a rod when it wouldn't release on a...

    16 versus 22 visibility

Well, there is less boat to block visibility with no rear bulk head(other than canvas), and also the fact that all the windows are closer to you in a 16 definitly makes it easier to see. But I always felt the 22 had good visibility too. The 16 angler has a pretty decent cockpit space for a 16...

    Size of kicker

I personally think for fishing in the sound 2.5 isn't enough. Get in a big current or rip, add some wind, and you'll be firing up the main. It would work in certain conditions surely, and it might even perform better than I imagine it would. Still I like a little extra HP if anything...

    Regelcoating the cockpit deck.

Thanks for the comments. I went with acetone, as thats what the finishing gelcoat said to thin it with on the label, up to 15% If I remember right. Seemed to work welll, and cured to a nice hard finish. Sark

    Downrigger Mounting

Rod, Sorry for the late reply. I try to "unplug" most of the weekend if possible since I sit behind a phone and computer all day. As to the offshore mounts they are pretty slick. They are actually powder coated metal(aluminum?) not plastic and are pretty heavy duty. They have the base that...

    My new 16

I will say it was much easier to put in the water. My neighbor has a ramp that I could never use because the 22 was just too big. The smaller size, is definitly easier to launch, store, wax  , and is very easy on fuel. It's paid for which is nice, the lower cost of upkeep and maintenance...

    My new 16

Ok, I can barely contain myself. I bought a new 16(to me) a couple weeks back and have been super busy getting her up to ship shape. She's a 89 16 angler with blue trim, she came with an 03 40HP merc with efi and only has 67 hours on the motor. The previous owner did many upgrades which I was...

    Regelcoating the cockpit deck.

lloyds. On the first coat I used laminating gelcoat which will cure to a tacky surface. It will cure hard if you completly cover it with a plastic film or wax. But I wanted it tacky so it would chemically bond with the second coat. I let that dry overnight, then the next day I used the gelcaot...
