Where the heck is all this moisture coming from!?

The realty is the factory did a very poor job sealing things. Buy some BoatLife Life Seal. I will only mention a few of the common ones. 1) The pop rivets all around the boat holding the rub rail on. Very small streams of water can run down from each rivet, and find it eventually to the floor...

Heads up - LiFePO4 and ABYC recommendations

When some see the LI battery, they just see the external case and posts. Looks like a wet cell or AGM battery. But the picture above reveals that current flows thru two 10 guage wires. In your home a 30 amp circuit uses a 10 guage wire. Do the math. Now those 2 wires are very short, so the...

    motor not resting on transom?

Digger is 110% correct ! Just because it is called a " Long Shaft " motor does Not mean it will measure 20" to the cavitation plate. If you were to tape measure the different manufacturers, you would get all different numbers from the tape measure. Look at what is important; Where is the...

The new poster says his boat is a 1998. Scallywags boat is a 2008. Thataway are you implying the new poster has bought Scallwags boat ? The thread makes no sense.

    Mysterious Brown Liquid

Thataway has said it correctly. All cabin parts, bulkheads, and v-berth parts are tabbed to the " molded hull ". A penetration " screw", etc. is the only way to compromise the core material. And as some have discovered, the builder was very lax at sealing properly.

    2006 Venture bilge water

The build detail of a 23 Venture is far different than a 22 Cdory. Most people would want a layer of gelcoat over the laminate layer if the area will have standing water. Look in the inspection port to see if it had been gelcoated. Then describe what you see to some fiberglass repair shops.

    Mysterious Brown Liquid

How is the anchor locker compartment drain water getting below the upper layer of the floor laminate ? Is someone suggesting the floor balsa is exposed in the anchor locker ? The original posting indicated " hairline cracks " in the floor. The gunnel bumper strips were pot riveted on, mine...

What boat would you move up to?

Up, Down, and Sideways with boat purchases. I have personally done it all. Went as far up as 42' with twin diesels, diesel generator, deep freezer, 2 bedroom/ 2 bath. Now I am down to the 22 Angler, I am very happy. Depends on your " dream " , money resources willing to spend, and present...

    Cavitation plate repair

That is a big crack. I do not think epoxy or fiberglass will fix that. For a chance, take it to someone that is skilled at aluminum welding. But you may be having to be looking for a new lower unit. I think the impact, exerted stresses greater than you might have thought. Dang debris!

    motor not resting on transom?

This "wise guy " boat yard is full of Alaska fishing boats shipped by land down here to WA State for all kinds of construction and modifications. He used to build fiberglass boats then got into the aluminum boat building business. He has built two outboard pods for me over the years, I had all...

    motor not resting on transom?

As everyone has said " it is normal " ! From the wise guy; Sitting static, there is very little structural pulling on the fender washers. Trailering down some bumpy road or down some logging road out in the far north, then there can be some pulling on the transom. But underway, that motor is...

    When to replace fuel tanks

Those two Moeller part numbers can NOT be purchased in plastic. Even the factory was NOT aware the molds were dumped in the trash. Thataway is listing a part number that was for the original plastic tanks. They are gone.

    When to replace fuel tanks

FYI Unknown to the builder, the molds for the plastic tanks were thrown in the garbage during a house cleaning. Factory plastic tanks are gone for good unless new molds are built. The builder is having to have aluminum tanks built.

What's Seattle really like these days?

Yup ! Exactly what PaulandBrianna said, and well said. City administrations have really made decisions that have sent Seattle down the toilet. We live 1.5 hours north, in a place that is actually very nice. Born in Seattle 61 years ago, Seattle is gone.
