water getting into gas on a 2009 c-dory 23' Venture

The vent should be mounted low enough that the vent hose can be looped high under the gunnel then slope down to the vent fitting. Water does not run uphill, as suggested make sure the vent opening does not allow a ramming effect by wave action.

Spider cracks In cockpit - how to fix?

There is flex going on in the area of the spider cracks, otherwise it would not have cracked. As indicated, it is generally a cosmetic thing not a structural need. As indicated, typically the gel coat had been applied to thick. Gelcoat is not structural. The crack will reappear. The proper...

    My new boat (part 4!)

Like many have said; " To each there own, and what they are happy with. I have had marina based boats; Haul-outs of $ 400 plus RT, storage lot fees ( your stuck ), and more limited options. Personally I prefer a trailerable boat, I can park it alongside my home and forget about it. I have also...

    Stuck sliding window

Tempered glass is very strong on it's face. Do NOT lift it with any metal object on it's edge, you will be looking at 1000 tid bits of glass. The glass can be lifted out of the frame, if you know how to remove the spacers in the top track.

    Stuck sliding window

Steam cleaning will remove the accumulated dried dirt, scum, and all the debris in the bunny fuzz. The window frame DOES NOT get removed from the the cabin wall ! All the plastic window track pieces can be removed from the aluminum frame, BUT the glass has to be removed first. Look for the...

    C Dory cancelling dealers

It is all very unfortunate, as the boat line has a good reputation. The enclosed hardtop rear bulkhead has it's place in the regions where getting out of the weather is needed. The Wright family ( Seasport founder, and Sportsman founder ) is one of nations earliest boat builders that began use...

A bad day on the Columbia

Saltwater area boaters have to use boat ramps that vary from a 12' high tide to a -4' low tide ramp. Saltwater areas grow a marine substance on the tidal area, including the boat ramp. Some get so slick, that a shovel is wanted to throw some sand and gravel on the ramp surface. Most freshwater...

A bad day on the Columbia

While you start to load the boat onto the trailer, have you EVER had the entire truck & trailer start to slide down a slick ramp ? I can tell you, it is NOT a good feeling.

A bad day on the Columbia

Personally, I always blocked my rear wheel until ready to pull back out.

What make of boat is this?

The boat weighs 12,000 # dry, add gear and people. Your going to need some horsepower to plane it, as designed. It would need at least 400 hp. It will burn some fuel, that's for sure. It certainly is not a dory.

    Window Stuck!

There is a spacer in the head track that prevents the glass from being lifted out. Once the glass is removed, all the plastic track can be removed, and the bunny fuzz can be replaced.

    trailer transport

I have had 2 boats hauled from the east coast, one in cheasapeake bay the other from New Jersey. Both times using U-Ship, the last one from NJ cost $2400. I have the business card info, if your interested. It is best to have the motor as near vertical position as possible.

    Window Stuck!

Use one of the Wagner steam machines ( used for wall paper removal and general cleaning), there is an attachment that has a narrow point with bristles. The steam will soften all the crud build up in the track bunny fuzz. Once you have it sliding, remove the glass ( both the slider and the fixed...

    Adhesive Removal - How to?

Rubbing alcohol removes the adhesive. Have used it on car paint to remove tree sap and decal adhesive, at first was very leary about using it. But does not damage the auto paint.

Should we add a sub site for seasport?

I do own a Seasport. I believe it would be a positive addition. The owners ( original ) of Seasport bought the molds for the C-Dorys and now produce the C-Dory boats. Thus they are the parent company to C-Dory. I looked at the forum list; Marinaut boats are listed, the only connection there was...

Mini-jacker with Lenco trim tabs question

Nice install. Looking at though, access to replace a trim acuator will be tough. One thought, instead of the shims shown. Have a aluminum fab shop make some 3/4 or 1" thick shims, with threaded holes to mount the mini jacker. The aluminum shims would be through bolted to the transom. This would...

    PNW Cruising & Storage

Contact North Harbor Diesel Service in Anacortes. They have several gravel yacht yards. One along R Ave. has trailerable boats along with the yachts. There are some RV's in there next to some of the boats, so I assume these are associated with the boat owner. I believe the cost for a boat on...

    New battery bank questions

Sad that a major motor manufacturer would use plain copper wire, and not tinned. Must be the extra cost, and out of sight out of mind ! I found that Cabela's had very good pricing on some of there labeled AGM's.

    New battery bank questions

Thataway, makes a good point. The chances of both start batteries being run down would be very small. Only you can make that call. And any future owner of the boat should be made aware of the specific limitation.
