    Lettering

thanks Harvey, I looked at boatsus, but they didn't have the font I wanted, so went with lettering.com, we'll see! :)

    Lettering

thanks all, I ordered today from lettering.com (which is the same company as doityourselflettering.com, interesting) - we'll see how they come out. I really wanted to do some domed lettering like the C-Dory logo, but way too expensive without being able to see the product. Thanks again!

    Lettering

thanks, Thataway, we don't have a graphics or vinyl shop, let alone a good one, within less than a few hours drive, thus the hope for something online :)

    Lettering

Has anyone found an online company that does lettering that looks like the C-Dory logo, i.e. domed, black with a gold (or other color) shadow, and the ability to have the first letter of each word larger than the rest of the word. There's a ton of companies online out there, but who knows what...

osmotic blistering and bottom paint questions...

I need to add to my last post - I ASSUME Collinite has a lot of carnauba, because that's why I've read, but I don't know that. They don't list their ingredients, and their MSDS doesn't either. Meguair's flagship marine does list its ingredients. An interesting thing I learned today is that...

osmotic blistering and bottom paint questions...

C-Wolfe, we just applied the Collinite 885 to one side of the boat (applied Meguair's flagship marine wax to the other). It was the easiest wax to put on that I've ever done. It's not thin, but it goes on very silky and feels rather hefty. I like it a lot as far as application and what appears...

osmotic blistering and bottom paint questions...

thanks, just trying to find a product(s) that will last the longest until we decide whether to do bottom paint. I'm not sure wax will last very long, so we would have to reapply periodically anyway. I was just thinking that McLube over wax (which they say you can do) would last longer than...

osmotic blistering and bottom paint questions...

I found a little bit online on PropSpeed, but not much, and not very positive (and pricey :) Seems silicone based. I agree probably not for fiberglass. I ran across a product called McLube Antifoul Speed Polish, might be interesting to try a section with that. They don't provide ingredients...

    bunk carpeting

This is probably a silly idea, and hopefully someone will say so, if so - we need to recarpet our bunks (and we've looked at synthetic, etc.), so what if you used marine grade carpeting, and just used strips on the top, like 1/4 inch from each side of the board, and glued it down. hmm, maybe...

osmotic blistering and bottom paint questions...

thataway, thanks, we have some collinite 885 coming tomorrow on your recommendation. I think one of the test areas on the bottom that we'll do is a ceramic spray, followed by wax. That's how it's done on autos. But test areas are going to be only 6 x 6'', so it's not like it'll hurt anything...

osmotic blistering and bottom paint questions...

p.s. I guess I just don't understand how, with all of our technology, that there's not a clear finish that's lasting, anti-fouling, and doesn't break the bank :)

osmotic blistering and bottom paint questions...

thataway, thanks for all of your info, as always! We're using Maguiars One step compound plus polish for the compounding portion, and it's working pretty well. Then we have Maguiar's flagship marine wax that we were going to apply. Have some Collinite 885 coming tomorrow via amazon that will...

osmotic blistering and bottom paint questions...

Thataway, we've pretty much decided NOT to bottom paint at this time, as once we have all the barnacle residue off, and I mean OFF, it's only going to be in the water two or so weeks at a time, then out and cleaned. We're lightly buffing all of the boat with a Meguiar's compound as it is...

osmotic blistering and bottom paint questions...

hardee, thanks - maybe I'm confused (not unusual), but whatever we eventually put on the bottom means we have to do the work to get all of the barnacle "residue" off, then at least buff it before any product? And with some product, more than just buffing :)

osmotic blistering and bottom paint questions...

Well, we had more than barnacle starts when we got it a few months ago, but we're getting it off with hull cleaner, scrapers, etc. (and Mr. Clean magic eraser pads, they're they most effective, hope we're not really screwing up the gelcoat :) The PO had left it in the water in a contained marina...

    Bilge area paint

I'm just talking about the approximate 18" that is under the splashwell, where the bilge pump sits. We'll be doing the rest of the deck in something else, then Dri-Dek on top.

osmotic blistering and bottom paint questions...

While we have our 16' out of the water and cleaning the hull of some barnacle "residue" (thanks to Thataway for his suggestions in an earlier post), we're wondering about ablative bottom paint. Not the up the sides kind of paint, but just on the bottom where we can't get to the hull because of...
