    Honda Oil Filter Alternative?

sebastien, I agree. Changing the oil frequently is important. The 150 on Journey On is now 15 years old and the motor part has run with no problems. I've obviously followed the filter discussion and no one has mentioned the filter's particle size capability. The Bosch I use has a particle...

    Trim Tabs

Journey On is a 25 C-Dory. I don't know the trim tab make, but I suspect they're Barnett. Worked well for lo these 15 years. No trouble in getting to the hydraulic unit, it's right below the starboard hatch in the cockpit. Nicked a line once when I put a spare propeller in the port locker...

Anchor locker drain leaking into v berth

Epoxy putty. The drain hole in Journey On is drilled to the outside and it's a long way to the locker wall, but it could happen. Sand the hole out, mix up some epoxy, add thickener, (carbon fluff) stuff it into the hole, use masking tape to hold the epoxy in place. Boris

    Tomcat washdown

OK, I'll defend the washdown capability. It's not useless and don't pull it out. We use it on Journey On to wash the anchor rode when we pull it up. This keeps a lot of sand/mud/crap from falling on the anchor windlass and into the anchor locker. Is that useful? Well, last time out we...

    25 Cruiser chassis ground location?

Here's my 2 cents worth. Chassis ground is different from signal return or power return. I found out the hard way that modern marinas separate the 110 Vac power and chassis also, so if you have a power return/ground tied to a chassis return (as I did, unknowing) the dock circuit breaker will...

SO WHAT DID YOU DO WITH OR ON YOUR C-DORY TODAY??

Sandy, I replaced the original 600 vertical windlass with a 700. Here's the topic I wrote (with pictures): Lewmar 700 installation. The hole in the deck is to fit the motor/gearbox through, plus room for the rode. The original winch failed because of grit from the rode which worked it's way...

    San Diego

Trailer parking is a problem in San Diego. Here is what we've found. Shelter Island Boat Ramp. Trailer parking for 3 days. No dock next to launch site, dock after you're in water. Coronado/Glorietta Bay Launch Ramp. Daylight parking only. Dock where you can launch. National City/Pepper...

    Down East Circle Cruise?

Tom, what you propose sounds wonderful. And you have the right boat. I'm a strong proponent of trailerable boats because one can take them to different places, see different things. If you have limited time, the Nova Scotia trip sounds like a lot of fun. I've thought of it but I'm on the...

    Securing the anchor

Gary, to answer your question: I have a C-D 25 with a Lewmar windlass. The Up-Down switch is below the wheel so I can use it at the same time I'm controlling the boat. The anchor always launches by it self. Sometimes it's windy, or current or etc. and I have to put it in gear and give it a...

    Newbie questions about generators

Well, the question of good generators comes up a couple of times per year. And there are two (2) camps: those who are willing to buy a Honda/Yamaha and those who are happy with a Chinese generator. I have a 20 year old Honda 1000i, which charges the battery and runs a small A/C. In that...

    Anchor choice

Well, we've all heard testimonials, war stories and opinions on which anchor to use. Here is a series of videos of anchors being tested for initial setting, resetting and swinging to current : Panope's Anchor Tests. They're all in sand with some seaweed, so draw your own conclusions. All...

    Anchor choice

Oh, goody! Another anchor discussion. And I'll put my 2 cents in. Just my opinion. We've traveled through the PNW many times, from the top of Vancouver Isle to the bottom of Puget Sound. I've used a Bruce for anchoring there in Journey On, a 25. I have found that the PNW as a lot of mud...

launching and retrieving larger than 22 cruiser

The C-Dory 25 loaded with fuel/water/cruising stuff weighs ~7400 lbs. Dry (no fuel/water/provisions), ~6300 lbs. The steel trailer weighs ~2000 lbs. You can translate that into your own trucks capacity. Hauled and launched Journey On for 15 years, haven't lost it yet. I've hauled a C-Dory 25...

    Electric Brakes

Hardee, Those EOH brakes are driven when (my) brake controller senses an electrical signal from the vehicle brake, then generates another electrical to the pressure generator on the trailer. This generator contains an electrically driven hydraulic pump, operated from the vehicle 12v. This...

    Honda 90 Oil Pressure

That's a Honda car engine turned on end, so think that way. If you have run it all summer and haven't noticed any oil sheen on the water, it's not leaking oil. So its burning oil. Honda engines don't usually burn oil, but a quart in 100 hrs doesn't seem bad. Keep running it and see how it...

Suzuki 70 ..changing the bottom end Seals

On the Honda 150 there are 3 sets of seals: waterpump and drive as well as the prop output shaft. I did the first 2 seals, as they can be changed with just the lower end dropped. However, the prop shaft had to be pulled. Since i didn't know what that entailed (re-shimming?) I let a shop do it...

Tomcat 255 In Water Bridge Clearance

Well, Journey On isn't a Tomcat, but the cabin is similar to a Tomcal, and the freeboard doesn't seem much different. So we got Journey On under a 8' 6" bridge in the delta, near Sacramento. Left the radar on the high arch, lowered the antenna. Just to see if I could and it saved 5 miles of...

    Canal du Midi

We went to the Canal du Midi, about 1990. One of the great trips of our life. Went from the western side, where it crosses over the Garonne River at a height of >100', to Béziers, where it goes down 5 locks. We walked into Béziers and helped them celebrate Midsummer Night. Went through...
