    South Sound to Ketchikan Timelines

There are several places on the trip to AK that could require waiting for the weather. Crossing the Georgia Strait, transiting Johnstone Strait, crossing Queen Charlotte Sound around Cape Caution, and the Dixion Entrance are all places that require decent weather. I have waited for the...

USCG inspection sticker and Boater Card

Mark, Could you post a link to that site. I figure that the boat.wa.gov site is the 'official' site for info. It is operated by the state of WA. Of course, knowing how our state operates, it could also be wrong! LOL

Flawed but still interesting comparison- E-TEC and Yamaha

I can't say if an E-TECH would be better on a 16, but I have an E_TECH 40hp on a 14ft Livingston. The positives... Starts instantly, accelerates like a drag car (hold on or else). Uses very little oil. Has a 300 hr first service interval. Has a great top end speed, I get 26 knots WOT on a...

    BC Salmon farms news

The salmon problems are different in the three locations, Washington, BC, Canada, and Alaska. Washington is overpopulated, with fewer spawning streams left. BC is not very populated, but they have damaged their streams with logging. The logging damage is being controlled now, but the fish...

    BC Salmon farms news

robhwa, Did you miss the part where it says that the salmon farms are spreading a disease from Norway which is killing off the native Pacific wild salmon? That is the problem. A parallel problem is that to raise farm fish, other food fish and bait fish have to be caught and turned into...

Drain plug - internal or externala?

I would suggest that if you put the plug in from outside, that you keep a spare plug handy near the transom. If a stray stick or pot warp pulls the plug from the outside, your spare is handy inside the boat.

Do any brats use marine charts?

Pat Anderson posted Pat says that this is the section that allows small craft to not carry paper charts. Does having the "knowledge" mean that we can (legally) refer to our chart plotter or CE on the computer to "know" the items in '(a)' and '(b)'. And will the authorities, (RCMP) let us...

    Repower26 Venture w/ twin 90 Suzuki

Many years back, Evinrude researched corrosion in outboard legs and lower units. They found that any copper at all in the aluminum will cause corrosion in salt water. For that reason, they sampled each batch of molten aluminum that arrived at their casting plant, and rejected any shipments...

    Article on Marijuana on boats

In my 30+ years of visiting BC waters, I have never been stopped or inspected by any Canadian official. I also do not break the rules or act rude. I would say that if you are fishing in a popular/crowded fishing area you might be stopped by a Fisheries Patrol vessel. I did get briefly...

    Article on Marijuana on boats

All up and down the Inside passage in BC, the RCMP has boats. From 40-50 ft high speed catamarans down to 25 ft patrol boats. The RCMP can access any part of the BC waters by boat if necessary. The Coast Guard in Canada is a safety/rescue organization that is not an armed force.
