I'm not really sure why they have you cut a 3" hole. Maybe for some wiggle room for the rode to go off to the sides? No idea. Having said that, the supplied gasket has a 3" by roughly 1.5" elongated opening for that hole. I suppose I could have used a jig saw and cut the opening to that size...

Had this polyboard laying around so I cut it to be the backing plate.

Once all the wet epoxy tacked up I back filled everything with thickened epoxy. In the next day or two I'll sand everything down again, paint on some of the gray epoxy paint, drill the mount holes and get that sucker mounted.

It took me a few days to get over the apprehension but I finally cut the BIG friggen hole. Dug out balsa with a dental tool. Brushed in some wet epoxy.
