    1/2 ton vs. 3/4 ton

Based on the advice of y'all, I bought a red 2002 GMC Sierra 2005 SLT with crew cab and short bed. Truck has all the goodies, leather included, custom wheels, on-star, etc. One owner who bought a newer Sierra with diesel. Has canopy and bed slider. Perfect condition. 92k miles. Paid $9500...

    Welcome Sportcraft!

You sure they had the R-29? I think you're mistaking it for the CD-29. Nonetheless, fine people. We came very close to buying an R-25 from them for a spectacular deal. -Greg

    1/2 ton vs. 3/4 ton

From what I was told by a dealer, quadrasteer was a $7000 option. I've never driven a rig with it so I'm not sure it's worth the money. I doubt if it's helpful in a towing situation. Driving around town...different story. -Greg

    1/2 ton vs. 3/4 ton

Thanks for the info and assurance! Yes to the 4X4. With the truck camper on, sans a boat, I plan to rough it a bit in the hills. As to the quadrasteer question, I don't enjoy manuevering a pickup in tight quarters. One thing I'll miss about my Exploder is it's tight turning radius...

    1/2 ton vs. 3/4 ton

You raise a heck of a point about a "boaterhome." It would be unlikely that I'd use the camper and the boat. Very easy to pull into an RV park and sleep in the boat. Perhaps a half ton would suffice. -Greg

    1/2 ton vs. 3/4 ton

The more I read about the subject, the more diverse opinions I find, which leads to further confusion on my part. To answer your question, the Campion + Camper + stuff would total 8000 lbs. at the most, which probably gives me a nice margin. I hoping to hear some experiences with those who...

    1/2 ton vs. 3/4 ton

Why are you asking such a question? Like myself, you own none of the above. -Greg

    1/2 ton vs. 3/4 ton

I'm wanting to haul my 22' Campion and, at times, a 2000 lb. pop up camper. I'm figuring combined weight is 8000 lbs. fully loaded. The 1/2 ton truck that intrigues me is a loaded '02 GMC 1500 Sierra Denali, 6.0, with quadrasteer (a feature I really want). It's rated as having a 10,000 towing...

    TC-24

Thanks Dr. Bob. I've gotten a lot of questions answered here and through e-mail with Les Lampman. The TC 24 boat was unavailable to view so we're going to shoot for this coming Friday. I ruled out the Seaswirl and Glacier Bay for now. If we change boats, consolidating with one, we'll...

    TC-24

Great posts. Thanks to all for the time you took to write. Many thanks to Tortuga for the links. I showed it to my wife and her comments were...."cute and goofy looking at the same time." She's says that about me too, so I can live with that. 8) A south wind is blowing and I'm going to...

    TC-24

How would the boat be used? Cruising and perhaps as a Coast Guard Auxiliary facility. As you may know, I have a 22' Campion just a mile from me, moored on the Columbia. We have our 27' Devlin 2.5 hours from us near Bremerton. We cruise on it in the off-season and charter it in the summer...

    TC-24

I may be in the market this spring for a cat like this. Weather permitting, I might look at it as early as Saturday. Would you say 65k is a fair price for this TC 24? From what I've read, the sloping front windows can create a greenhouse effect. Can that be solved with some aftermarket...

    1KW generator or 2KW generator?

Well Dang Roger. My vote is for a Honda 1k. I own a Honda 2k and it's proven to be too heavy and bulky for my limited cockpit space. Plus...it's more than I need, since all I used it for was a small microwave or heater. Buy the 1k and I'll trade you! :) -Greg

Hitting the Fan for Boaters in Portland

The temperature of the Columbia River is about 38 degrees. It hasn't been above freezing for a week. If they used that system here at Kalama's covered marina, it would simply add more weight in the form of ice. -Greg

    Electronics

Better yet. Contact your local Coast Guard Auxilliary flotilla and attend a Boaters Skills and Seamanship class. You'll learn all about chartwork plus a whole lot of other important things. I just finished the course and it was excellent. -Greg
