    Battery charging while under way

Combine batteries after starting to charge both. And uncombine after shutting down the motor. Otherwise, you effectively have one big single battery and lose the safety benefit of having dual batteries.

    RF exposure from marine radar

2'7" = 31 inches 31"/TAN(12.5) = 139.8" = 11.65 feet ~ 11'8" So... assuming that the radar post is perpendicular to the roof (and that my math is correct), the beam would intersect your roof 11-feet, 8-inches away from the post.

    Passenger seating in smaller C-Dory's

I had a bench seat from a Harbercraft in my 16 Angler. It was great for extra seating, and had storage under the seat cushion. But, it took up a lot of room. What about a small cooler with a seat cushion on it? Or - how 'bout something like one of these folding bench seats?

    Fuel hoses/primer bulb question

I protect my fuel lines, control cables, and other rigging, in a rigging sleeve (also called a rigging tube, or rigging hose). You can see some examples here.

Resurrecting a 5 year old thread just to complain about West Marine? Really?

    Marinaut 215 Design

Well, this line of thought is interesting to me. So, I opened up my Chapman's 66th edition to see what it had to say about the subject. All of these quotes came directly out of Chapter 1: Nautical Terms. So, it seems that even those 'in-the-know' about such matters have a hard time...

    New Marinaut Finally Home

I don't care what anybody says - that right there is one nice looking boat. The blue canvas color works remarkably well with the gray hull, and color of the Hondas blends in beautifully. You'll definitely need to be prepared to spend a bunch of time talking about your new acquisition with...

    New Venture Hull Shape

As an engineer, I resent your assertion that my estimate is not valid. I didn't just pull random numbers out of thin air. My estimate is based on published data for the large/heavy components, as well as my personal experience regarding the loads we've typically carried for the past eight years...

    New Venture Hull Shape

I would agree that, until you run your 26-footer across a set of scales, your guess is no better than mine. :wink

    New Venture Hull Shape

Bob, forgive me if I'm misunderstanding you here. I'm just trying to understand your logic. If a loaded 26-foot Venture weighs in somewhere in the high-9,000# range, wouldn't that put it at nearly 10,000 pounds? Then, assuming this is the "weight on the trailer", wouldn't you also have to add...

    New Venture Hull Shape

I'm sure you meant Cape CRUISER, not Cape Dory. In my opinion, that estimate is way, way high. I have yet to actually scale mine, but even using generous numbers for everything we load on the boat for 3-4 day cruises, plus a bit more, I came up with the load on the trailer of under 7000#...

Mystery electrical system problem - not sure how to proceed.

It wouldn't take much for me to clean up that drawing if you want a clean schematic before you start making changes. Let me know if you think it would help.

Mystery electrical system problem - not sure how to proceed.

Well, that is exciting news, indeed! And although I can't figure out what kind of internal ACR failure would cause that fuse to blow, I fully admit to being ignorant about such devices - I just don't know how they work. But, it does appear that the new unit has solved the problem. And, I'd...

    tongue weight

Individual axle loading on a tandem set is a function of trailer angle, not tongue weight. Trailer angle is adjusted by raising or lowering the ball. Tongue weight is adjusted by shifting the load fore and aft on the trailer. And, yes... balanced loading on the axles provides balanced...
