As far as I know a charge controller is pretty much a necessity regardless of panel wattage, to prevent overcharging or reversing the flow and draining one's batteries.

I've seen something similar called a "happy hooker" but have never used one. That version attaches to the shaft of a boathook with a removable head. The hook and moor looks interesting and that it would be useful for mooring balls. Wonder how much it costs?

I've never heard anything bad about either. We've had Bennett for 9 years with zero trouble. When i had occasion to call them they were quick and very helpful. Something I wish had is the tab position indicator that tells you how far down the tabs are. Personally I prefer hydraulic to electric.

Go to NAPA and you can find one of their filters for less $ than the official Honda brand. Just give them the Honda number and they should be able to help. Likewise oil. Look at the specifications of the oil and you can find a perfectly good non-Honda brand that will give you the same protection.

Is there water access all the way? If so you might consider just taking the boat. There are a number of places in that area that offer transient moorage.
