OK I am still confused on the prop/engine

When I say the engines are "Propped as if they were singles" I mean each 40hp engine is propped as a single 40 hp engine, not as half of an 80hp engine, after all, that little engine can only support a certain size prop. In other words, If I had just one 40hp engine I would have the same 11.1x11...

OK I am still confused on the prop/engine

We have run both 4 blade and 3 blade on our twin 40's. They are propped as if they were singles. Right now we have 4 blade props on. They let us run at our normal cruising speed (12-14NMPH)about 200 rpm lower than with the three blade. The tradeoff is in top speed but we never go that fast...

OK I am still confused on the prop/engine

Are the props 3 or 4 blade? Are you reading speed in MPH or NMPH?

    Anchor problem

Have you checked the connection where you added the new chain? There may be just enough added bulk there to inhibit auto-deployment. You might try launching the anchor at home with the boat on the trailer, you can analyze the problem easier there than on a deck.

    Camping on our C-Dory

We too have boater camped with our 22. She works great and generates interesting conversations. Once in a small campground in Nebraska we ended up meeting long lost relatives of my wife. We carry a short stepladder to ease getting into and out of the boat when. We set up a grey water drain using...

    Bowline cleat location

We have the cam cleats as well and find them extremely handy and easy to use. Speaking frankly, and with the best of intentions, just about every time we see someone hurriedly untying their docklines when approaching the dock it seems a lot of effort and often, needless drama. Our camcleats are...

    Cooking on board

Our Magma was disappointing. On high or off. We ended up selling it.

    Anchor rode fray

Jody, based on your description, I'd just replace the line. Use the left over to practice splicing, make dock lines, etc. and, if you intend to boat where you may be anchoring in 25-35' of water you may want to consider increasing the length to 200'.

    Anchor rode fray

Depending on where the wear is you may be able to just reverse the line so that the worn part is farther in than you normally use. That would mean doing an eye splice and thimble on one end and a rope to chain splice on the other end. There is a "long splice" intended to join lengths of line...

New aluminum anchor winch just finished building

Thanks for posting this. Projects like this are very interesting and illustrate the wide range of talent and preferences on the site. I certainly could not tackle anything like this. One question, on which I am not clear, how is the non-motor end of the spindle supported and what do you use for...

Ok I am soon part of the C-Brat family

Ah yes...it was a feeble attempt at a joke, Victoria is one of our favorite places and your post made clear that you are from there. I'll have to remember to carefully inspect any attempts at humor and expunge carefully.

Ok I am soon part of the C-Brat family

Good for you. Now you can take the boat all the way to Victoria in far off Canada for the Victoria gathering!

    Who built it?

The place of manufacture is usually shown under the logo decal on the side of the cabin. The HIN will show date of manufacture, that can be correlated with dates of ownership to show which of the factory ownerships made the boat. That said, some being "better" than others is very relative. The...

    Solar Panel Advice

Bob, You asked for sun and night voltage output from the panel. With no load and at a 3' pigtail: Direct sun: 20.7V, bright overcast 19.02V, night (w/some ambient light) .59V.

    "River Horse"

I read River Horse after hearing it was about taking a 22 clear across the country by water. I finished the book but it was a chore. I got into it and grew frustrated with the author's wilful ignorance, manipulation of others, and foolishness. He did not cross the country by water. He did not...

    2015 Pelican, Alaska Gathering

First, we are very happy to hear that Jolee's back is better. Second, what's the word on the possible new grandbaby? Third, wow, that's what I call stepping up. This might be a flotilla to AK opportunity. Where is Pelican?

    Solar Panel Advice

OK, charged both batteries to full charge yesterday using 10A 120V charger, cleaned up some old connections. All is well today; good sunlight, the panel is doing as expected, i.e. keeping the house bank up with little or no load. That is its sole function so a small 20W panel is adequate...

    Solar Panel Advice

Bob, Thanks for the reply. My previous post was about issues with another controller, since replaced, and two older house batteries, since replaced. We'll see how it looks tomorrow.
