We have run both 4 blade and 3 blade on our twin 40's. They are propped as if they were singles. Right now we have 4 blade props on. They let us run at our normal cruising speed (12-14NMPH)about 200 rpm lower than with the three blade. The tradeoff is in top speed but we never go that fast...

Are the props 3 or 4 blade? Are you reading speed in MPH or NMPH?

Have you checked the connection where you added the new chain? There may be just enough added bulk there to inhibit auto-deployment. You might try launching the anchor at home with the boat on the trailer, you can analyze the problem easier there than on a deck.

Jody, based on your description, I'd just replace the line. Use the left over to practice splicing, make dock lines, etc. and, if you intend to boat where you may be anchoring in 25-35' of water you may want to consider increasing the length to 200'.

Depending on where the wear is you may be able to just reverse the line so that the worn part is farther in than you normally use. That would mean doing an eye splice and thimble on one end and a rope to chain splice on the other end. There is a "long splice" intended to join lengths of line...

OK, charged both batteries to full charge yesterday using 10A 120V charger, cleaned up some old connections. All is well today; good sunlight, the panel is doing as expected, i.e. keeping the house bank up with little or no load. That is its sole function so a small 20W panel is adequate...
