    East Coast Docking Techniques

Thanks for the photos. That looks very different. No cleats, guess one would have to practice clove hitches a lot. Is that finger as skinny as it looks? 18-24"?

    Solar Panel Advice

Thanks Bob. I do check the battery voltage with a digital voltmeter. Yes, the batteries are not true deep cycle, they are the hybrids. The controller is accurate to 1/100th of a vollt. I am charging with the Bepp management system in the off position thus the two batteries should be electrically...

    Solar Panel Advice

OK, I just replaced my marginal HQRP 7A charge controller with a 10A Sunforce controller. It has a digital display of battery voltage which is nice. Here's the issue: Connections are simple and made correctly, 17+ volts coming out of our 20W monocrystalline panel. Controller shows both input...

    East Coast Docking Techniques

Thanks Sunbeam. That helps some. I'm wondering how people singlehand with this arrangement. Looks like there would be lots of quick acrobatics and colorful language involved.

    East Coast Docking Techniques

Would someone please post pictures of these docks. I am having a hard time visualizing the necessary steps or how far away the pilings are, etc. etc. Thanks.

Can you and your C-Dory do this?

Of course we could but it would be hard to get the boat uncleated and off of the line after you lifted it up to the lighthouse!!

    Venture Sink Size

I made our cutting board out of a standard HDPF? cutting board, trimmed it with a band saw, and adhered 4 cleats made from the scraps to the underside so that it will not slide off. has worked fine for years.

    San Juan Islands June 2014

Glad you are enjoying yourselves...and are now warm. You've hit the marina and some other hotspots but there is a lot more. If you can make it back sometime, try to get across the border. The Gulf islands are a very different experience. You are right, most sailboats in the SJ's are just...

    Permatrim Hydrofoils

We have twin Honda 40's on our 22. We have both trim tabs and permatrims and are very satisfied. We use the trim tabs for lateral trim and the permatrims for fore and aft. We are very happy with them and have used them for over five years.

    Batteries

I think you'll find most folks use a variation of a deep cycle battery for the house. We have two group 24 deep cycles in parallel for C-Cakes but we are on the hook often and don't often sign up for power when on a dock.

    06/13 - 06/14 - Pender Harbour 2014

A good turnout, 15 boats if I can count this early in the AM. Fisherman's Marina is a very relaxing place, good fun dinner for pretty much everybody last night. All got across the Straits of Georgia with little trouble. Pender Harbour is as beautiful as we remember. Nice to have another Canadian...

    06/13 - 06/14 - Pender Harbour 2014

Our present plans are to depart Oak Harbor Wednesday afternoon, clear customs in Bedwell Harbour and head north. Not in a hurry so not sure where we will end up that night, maybe as far as Nanaimo. We expect to be in Nanaimo by Thursday for sure, will provision and fuel there and head over to...

    06/13 - 06/14 - Pender Harbour 2014

Been looking at the wind/tide/current forecasts for the Straits of Georgia off Nanaimo. It appears that for Thursday both wind and current are forecast to be minor in the AM. Wind from the northwest less than 10kts to 1100, slack tide at about 1200, currents forecast from the nw at 1100 roughly...

    Linear Moorage Systems

We try to avoid the linear moorage...period! We stayed there at Sucia once, no damage for us but too many reports of scuff marks all the way down the hull and other damage from the hard "fenders" along the mooring line. Its worth noting that other parks/marinas are not rushing to install linear...
