Best MPG Vehicle that can tow 5k lbs.(For CD22)

Well, you seem to be asking for opinions on TVs, so here goes. I think that the Nissan Pathfinder may be a better choice. It is now rated for 6.000 lbs. Although your all up weight is well below that, I do think that the Pathfinder is built a little heavier than the Highlander. Ours gets in the...

    All chain rode?

Gary is correct. I think that the most versatile rode combination is 150' of chain backed by 100' of nylon. With 1/4" chain, 1/2 nylon works fine. With 5/16" chain go with 7/8" nylon. That much rode lets you anchor in as much as 80' with a 4:1 scope. I once did that in Somes Sound in Maine. David

    All chain rode?

I had this happen once in a rocky anchorage in Maine. But I would much prefer the sound to the effects of the rocks sawing through my nylon rode in the middle of the night. Also with the nylon snubber I described above, the sound is much less. David

    All chain rode?

I can't comment on the weight effect. 150' of 1/4" will be about 100 lbs. But chain is the safest and easiest rode to use IF YOU HAVE A WINDLASS. Don't worry about it hanging straight down, you just don't have enough wind to pull it taught. Do consider a snubber bridal to take the load off of...

    Boat right sizing

Can you live with the limited overnight amenities that the CD 22 and especially the CD 16 don't have: shower, full galley, head? I can for one or two nights, but that is all. David

22 Cruiser Cockpit size, 4 adults

Here is another brand that has a long 8' cockpit and basic galley amenities. I have an Atlas Boat Works Pompano 23. It is about the same size as the C Dory 22, but because its outboard is mounted on a bustle aft of the transom its cockpit is totally open. The pilot house is tiny with just the...

22 Cruiser Cockpit size, 4 adults

The C Dory brochure shows plan views and the 22 Angler just has two helm seats. See- https://www.c-dory.com/wp-content/uploa ... preads.pdf I have seen pictures of older models of the Angler and they had a longer cabin but not sure if that included a galley. I am not a C Dory owner as I have...

    Solar Battery Charger

Thanks. I have that same battery in my camping trailer. So far it has held up fine for five years. David

    Solar Battery Charger

Not to put too much of a damper on the fun, but if those "deep cycle" batteries don't also give an amp hour spec, they are unlikely to be true deep cycle batteries and won't last as long. I agree, your Wallas heater will be the power hog. David

    Solar Battery Charger

That is a very expensive package and 20 watts won't do much. If you want a package, look on Amazon for at least 100 watts. Those packages usually come with a very cheap Chinese controller. Look for packages with Renogy products. Those are still Chinese, but Renogy is a big Amazon supplier and...

LiFePO4 for house and AGM for start?

The numbers don't add up for me. Those 100 AH batteries are $650 each with no communications option, so $1,300 for two. Generic 6V GC2 batteries are about $100 each, so $400 for equivalent usable amp hours. David

    Recharging boat battery's while towing....

Did you actually measure 30 amps while charging your boat batteries from your TV? I would have thought that with 20' of run to the back of the TV from the alternator plus another 20-25' in the boat, 10 gauge wire would cause such a high voltage drop (more than 2 volts at 30 amps) that it...

    Will my truck pull it?

That is a good point. When the weight of the TV approaches the weight of the trailer, which it did in your case, stability issues result. These can be minimized as they are in 18 wheelers with a very stiff suspension, but your Tacoma wasn't stiff enough. And you wouldn't like how the Tacoma...

    Will my truck pull it?

The fact that with the crew cab (longer wheelbase) and heavier suspension the Colorado is good for 5,500 lbs tells me that the engine and basic drive train is up for it, but the standard wheelbase and suspension is what limits towing capacity to 4,000 lbs. So strip it down of all gear and...

    Will my truck pull it?

The tow rating of that truck is 4,000 lbs. The all in tow weight of a C Dory 22 with fuel, minimal gear and an aluminum trailer is very near that weight. I think it will be ok for short tows, but not long distance and particularly not in mountains. David

    Advice Needed: minor stress crack

Rain water or snowmelt can seep into a crack like that and if stored outdoors in a cold climate it can freeze and expand the crack until it is more than gelcoat. That could allow water into the core and rot it. I forge,t do C-Dorys use balsa for coring? Anyway if it is fairly new then it can...

    Advice on new TomCat purchase

Some answers: 1. A 22 lb Rocna should be fine. 2. Prop- No thoughts 3. Water heater- You could run your water heater from your inverter but it would quickly kill your batteries. Water heaters will generally last two nights away from shore power if you take quick showers. Beyond that I would...

    03/05 - 03/07 - Hontoon Island, Florida CBGT

I think that radar can be quite useful, particularly at night or when navigating in foggy conditions. But how many times do C Dory boaters do that? AIS is even less useful. Unless you boat in a major port area you won't see many AIS targets. Look at Marinetraffic.com which uses shore based...

    03/05 - 03/07 - Hontoon Island, Florida CBGT

I want to thank Tom and Joyce for putting on a great get together. This was my first time and it was great. Some of you who attended my talk on solar power weren't able to get my handout (I ran out of printer paper), so here is a link to the Trawlerforum library section where you can download...

A penny for your thoughts - balsa core condition

Ok, here goes again: The existing transom probably consists of three layers: 1/4" of glass inside and outside and 3/4" of balsa in the middle. When you taper back the existing fiberglass layer outside of your 2" hole you are grinding it down to about zero at the hole and 1/4" thick at the 4"...
