    Right Time to Replace Anodes

Vern, My Suzuki DF50s are 2005. I have the Maintenance manual for them and there is absolutely no mention of internal anodes. The mechanic who has done routine periodic maintenance on my motors was clueless about anodes, and when my new mechanic checked them he found them completely...

    Running without thermostats

Update to update. Got my boat back yesterday. Water tube, pressure relief valve, anodes replaced. Pissing like a champ. Ran vinegar through other port engine all day. Pulled corroded anodes. Have to run it hard now to blow out some gunk when weather improves. Not being a confrontional...

    Running without thermostats

Well, here's the update. I did not feel comfortable running without a thermstat so I took it back to the mechanic and had him tear down the power head. Found lots of salt buildup. Paid $1500 and still happening. Mechanic tried everything he could think of....no joy. Few weeks later I took it...

    Right Time to Replace Anodes

I also have Suzukis....twin 50s....and never knew about internal anodes until taking them in for service at a dealer who knows his stuff. The owners manual makes no mention of checking them in maintenance. Mine when pulled were virtually disintegrated (1000 hours).

    Running without thermostats

Appreciate the replies, but consider this: with thermostat engine overheats at high rpms, but without runs ok. The thermostats, even open, restrict enough water flow to cause overheating due to buildup of deposits in water channels. By removing them, it allows enough additional flow to prevent...

    Running without thermostats

One of my Suzuki DF50 2005 engines, with about 1000 hours on it, began emitting the overheat light when run over 5000 rpms. Shut down the engine, restart and run below 5000 rpm, everything is fine. Installed new thermostat. But no joy. Mechanic thinks corosion inside engine block, despite...

    Rub Rail Repair.....

After reading the posts on rub rail repairs, here's my question: The rub rail insert seems to be a type that can only slide into the metal rail that holds it, and the head of the rivet or screw is countersunk in the metal beneath it. If that is the case, how is the insert slid out of the rail...

    Rub Rail Repair.....

Joel, Gotta love you, man. Fifty cent washers. Great. Gotta love our site, too. Can find any fix for a C-Dory right here. Reason enough to buy a C-Dory. Yesterday, while on CGAUX patrol, I musta caught my rub rail at the bow on something, and pulled it away from the hull, popping two...

    08/03 - 08/09 - 13th Annual Catalina Off-Shore Adventure

Sealife left Two Harbors on Thursday morning at about 6:30am and arrived at Channel Islands Harbor at 11:00. Smooth sailing the whole way. Contrary to the norm, it got flatter the closer we got to home. A little black and blue from a single handed try at picking up the mooring, but I slept...

    08/03 - 08/09 - 13th Annual Catalina Off-Shore Adventure

Fully committed now. Ordered camper canvas for aft cockpit, and had my radar pedestal powder coated as it was showing some wear and tear. Powder coating was only $50.....super deal, canvas deal not so much, $675. But Sealife will have an added cabin. Very cool.

    08/03 - 08/09 - 13th Annual Catalina Off-Shore Adventure

Me and 1st mate Muffin are planning to make the Adventure In Paradise again, this time joining others out of CIH for a direct cruise downhill to Two Harbors. Hope to introduce a grandson to this craziness, but not sure of his camp schedule. Yeah, I know, life is tough for today's youngsters...

    12th Annual Catalina Off-Shore Adventure for 2013

Wow, 12 boats. After all these years it's great to see the enthusiasm has not diminished for this event. Thanks to Pounder (Jim & Cathy) for keeping it going so well. Seems like I never left. Jim, will anyone be arranging for our moorings on the string prior to our arrival?

    12th Annual Catalina Off-Shore Adventure for 2013

I was about to volunteer for the ice cream, but Steve beat me to it, so I'm at a loss as to what to contribute, so Pounder, how about letting me provide some tri-tip?

    12th Annual Catalina Off-Shore Adventure for 2013

Ron, Would be delighted to cruise with you to MDR. Perhaps first timer Pedro (c-casa) would like to join us also. Saw his 1989 Cruiser at the Landing and it looks brand new. And yes, I did mean Wendy. As I recall, though, we usually ran into her later in August. Really hope we do see her...

    12th Annual Catalina Off-Shore Adventure for 2013

Decision made: we will cruise to MDR and go over with the fleet on Monday morning. Now, let me answer a couple of questions posed in this thread: A. No, I'm not bringing Ed.......I'm bringing Paul. B. This may not be the last time you can see Sealife again! There is still some...

    12th Annual Catalina Off-Shore Adventure for 2013

Whose meeting in MDR (besides Jim)? I'm not sure if I want to go directly to Catalina ( long, but downhill), cruise or trailer to MDR and go over with the group. Might have an Auxiliary buddy going with me, in addition to Muffin.

    12th Annual Catalina Off-Shore Adventure for 2013

After several years of dedicated Coast Guard service, Sealife returns!!! Looking forward to meeting old (older) friends again......except Islander who I still see, as we inhabit the same harbor. I will see if I can drag Roger & Pat (C-Hawk) along also. His boat resides next to mine at Channel...
