    Maiden Voyage of Big C!

I too had to add 2 inches of soft foam to the mattress, after removing 2 inches of "rock foam" from the top. World of difference.

    Lewmar Pro Fish woes

I installed a Lewmar fish pro last year and it had the upgrade already installed. With new 1/2" 3 strand nylon, I have had NO problems. Great upgrade.

    Greetings and a newbie question

What they said. Also, CD's have the best non-skid that I have ever seen. It grips to the point of being brutal on bare feet. One hand on the grab rail at all times and you should be OK. Welcome aboard.
  6. The trailer connectors certainly aren't rust proof, but are sealed, and made for the weather and as I keep them WD40ed, and stored inside the boat, they have worked well. Probably will never need a spare, but they were cheap and easy to make, so...

  8. There seems to be some interest in the remote switch so... First I sealed the old hause hole slot. I used trailer wiring and connectors, female here to contactor. The switch simply parallels the panel switch; middle-common to fused +12volts, up to up, down to down on the contactor.

windlass installation where to put the wiring

I am sure you will get many replies to your question, as this is a popular upgrade. I just added a windlass this year and my method has worked for me. First of all, I wired the contactor to the starter battery; my thoughts being that the motor would always be running when the windless was...

    Remote steering system

I don't know what you will be using the kicker for, so this may not apply to you. I have a rod that connects the main engine to the kicker. This works well. But, I sometimes just drop the kicker, lock it straight ahead, and steer with the main. There is the drag from the main engine foot...

    Lake Powell 2016

For those who have never done Powell, it is one of the most amazing places that this southern boater ever experienced. Beautiful water, lots of fish, history, views, etc. The idea of motoring up against the side of a mountain, touching the wall, and looking at 150 ft on your depth sounder is...

    Building SEEKER

I have such respect for anyone skilled enough and patient enough to build a boat: dinghy sized on up. As for manufacturers, this illustrates the massive amounts of man-hours and materials that go into a new design, even before the first production run.

New solution for shower on small boats.

I shot this picture at the 2015 St Johns Gathering. I can't remember the boat name (sorry). It is black for heat, can be charged with a bicycle pump for pressure, or (an assumption) you can let gravity do the job. I liked the simple, neat install and look.

Thisaway-Thataway on the St.John's and Econlockhatchee River

Just a note: We made the St. Johns Gathering two years ago. This year we ventured to south Fla. and ran the 100 mile Everglades Wilderness Boat Trail. Fun trip, but if wildlife is your priority, do the St. Johns. We were surprised at how few birds, gators, manatee, etc. that we saw in the...

    Cabin vibrations...

What one can look forward to, if they don't protect their hearing, is that those annoying noises will have less and less volume as the years go by. Enjoy!

    Cabin vibrations...

I don't think you can deaden the noise, from every source, enough to not do harm to your ears. Rule is, if you can't understand some one, 3 feet away, talking in a normal voice, you need ear protection. We use ear plugs, before we go on plane. They're handy to have around in those noisy...

    fuel tank gauges

Thanks to all. Sunbeam provided tank part numbers on a previous blog, if I go that way. Mounting sending units doesn't seem an option. Recommended flow meters I can research on the net. Lots to think about.

    fuel tank gauges

I just idled for several miles to a fuel dock, trying to stretch, what I thought was an empty fuel tank. Imagine my amazement when the 20 gallon tank only took 10 gallons fuel. Let me say that I have been duped before by these tanks. I have tried the "use a big flashlight" method, which works...

Blown regulator/rectifier module on 90hp Suzuki

Thanks for the info, Bob. That should have been a flag that nothing was wrong, the batteries were not using any water( no gassing). Live and learn.

    Don't worry, be happy!

I once met an old crusty Frenchman, living on his boat, down island in Admiralty Bay. He'd been around and had some tales to tell. Once he was off the coast of Carolina and was hit by a hurricane. (It's hard to imagine in this day and age, how one could be surprised by a hurricane, but ...
