    Bought a new windlass recently?

Thanks Bob! I think I still have the template for my Horizon 600. Should be easy to compare.

    Bought a new windlass recently?

Oh great. A new wrinkle. I had just about decided to bite on the Lewmar ... fortunately, I have three or four months to make this weighty purchasing decision. The Maxwell HRC FF Rope Chain Horizontal Windlass is $1,046 at Fisheries Supply. Exactly the same price at Defender. $185 more than the...

    Bought a new windlass recently?

I wonder if the $115 extra I would pay for the same unit at Fisheries Supply would be worth the peace of mind of buying local?

    Bought a new windlass recently?

Thanks Bob. Several of the negative reviews I read complained about the way the unit is sealed, e.g., "just glued together with gobs of white caulking." Do you think there could be any validity to that--or is their unhappiness more likely the result of poor maintenance?

    Bought a new windlass recently?

Good price--much better than WM. In my initial search, before I posted, I found the Lewmars got 2.5 stars out of 5 in 16 reviews on the WM site, and 1 star out of five in 6 reviews on Amazon. I'll grant you, that's not a very meaningful sample, but with more reviewers panning the windlass than...

    Bought a new windlass recently?

My Horizon 600 is giving up the ghost, and I have been looking at both the Lewmar Pro-Series H700 and the Lewmar Pro Fish 700FF. But each gets some fairly dismal reviews. Like this one: There doesn’t seem to be any way of telling when the negative reviews were written. Maybe--is this wishful...

    School me on Inflatable PFD's

I have spent a lot of time hanging upside down in kayaks in very cold water (in a drysuit) working on self-rescue skills. But for all that practice, I realize I have been pretty lax about maintaining the pair of West Marine “offshore” inflatable life jackets I keep aboard my C-Dory. I also have...

    Twin 40s battery question

Thanks Harvey. There is no power in the yard where I keep my boat, at the Everett Marina, so in the off season I have been driving up there every week or two, and moving it to a location where I can plug in my portable charger. I am thinking I need to look into solar panels and trickle chargers...

Thanks Boris. My charger is allegedly 3-step.

    One more Guest charger question

Oh oh. I have been recharging my batteries using this Guest portable charger, every week or so in the winter when I'm not running my boat very often. Would I be better off with another charger?

    Twin 40s battery question

Jay, when you're using your charger, do you hook it up to one battery and put the switch on "both?"

    Twin 40s battery question

Thanks folks. Would you go with dual purpose or starting batteries? And what might recommend one brand of battery over another?

    Twin 40s battery question

Folks, I recently happened upon an old discussion (http://www.c-brats.com/viewtopic.php?t=59&sid=95bde120bbb205b4ca4584d273f6730c) of battery wiring for twin Honda 40s, and now have a better understanding of why the charging coil in my starboard engine got fried (once for the boat's previous...

Looking for a covered place to keep my CD-22

Good idea, regarding Craig's List. Thanks Jason. There are lots of marinas here with covered storage, but they're expensive.
