SE Alaska & the Yukon River 2016

Jay.......... I once again am lurking and enjoying your adventures via your excellent writing. PLease keep it up for the remainder of your trip and stay safe. If you happen to make a wrong turn and come up the Cook Inlet we live on the east beach one mile south of Cape Ninilchik and 40 miles...

    Mooring options

We have a 27 foot + tide. Not possible for a dock. Beach launching with a tractor is the preferred way to go although it is pricey. The only available harbor is totally filled with commercial fishing boats and they have zero tolerance for sport boats in "their" harbor paid for with state money.

How hard to pull 25 fuel tank.

Jay, A leaking fuel tank is my worst nightmare as my CD is also a 2005. The deck is not removable w/o a saw job on it. So far so good. Good luck with your project. Let us know how you are getting along with it. My Deep Creek neighbor has a 1996 CD ProAngler with two 90 gal tanks. One...

    Seastar Hydraulic Cylinder Repair

I believe those holes are for the spanner wrench used to remove the end cap. The spanner wrench circles the cap and a pin on the wrench fits into those holes. If you buy the whole kit for approx. $100 a wrench is included along with the seals and "o" rings as well as the tapered sleeve that...

    Access to CDory from ramp

When I had my 22' CD we launched in the surf all the time. Launch the boat into the water. Pull it by the bow line sideways to the beach and then throw your leg over the side and slide into the boat. Be careful of "the boys" if the surf is rough. Then use a pike pole to shove away from shore...

    Boat Show Trailers, Road Runner

I purchased a Road Runner trailer for my 22' CD. It was made for launching/retrieving set net skiffs in the surf. It has bunks and side bunks. The axle is a single but 6000# rated. Works excellent on the beach and does well on the road. The trailer is well built and was 2/3 the price of the...

    Paint peeling on Honda outboards

2003 Honda 200 hp. Cowling paint flaking off since 2009. I cleaned it up, sanded it and sprayed the affected area with black bed liner paint. Looked good for several years but now is "going south" again. The lower unit looks like something has messed up the paint from abrasion but there is...

Best Trailer Bunks or rollers? Single or twin axle?

The fact that your boat came with a trailer set up with bunks and the rollers in a box should give you some idea of what is best. Tandem axles for ramp launching and highway travel. Single axle when towing on a sandy beach and beach launching. Tandems dig in when turning on the sand.

SO WHAT DID YOU DO WITH OR ON YOUR C-DORY TODAY??

My usual comment on a successful beach retreive in the ocean surf is................nobody died, nobody wet. Take notice of and advantage of any slight breeze when docking. Ignoring it will get you in trouble. using the fender step was great on my 22' CD but the gunnel on my 26' ProAngler CD...

    new power

My 1983 22' CD tipped to the left with a 115HP Johnson at high speeds. It scared hell out of me the 1st time. The little rudder on the lower unit and keeping my throttle pulled back a little fixed it. Good luck. Jack

How much boat is too much for someone new to boating?

Years ago I was shopping for a boat for my family just like you are doing now. I asked a friend, and experienced boater, to give me his advice about a boat I had found. He looked it over, said it was in good shape but said it was too small. His advice and it was correct............search...

    CUBA???

I would love to take the trip to Cuba to see all of those old cars. But I am not going to pull my CD back to Fla. from Alaska. From Whitehorse, Yukon down the Yukon R. to the Bering Sea is another trip I would like to take. Running out of life time. So much to do....so little time.

Leak from bow pulpit stanchion base

Another thing to look at on the old C-Dorys is the bow railing somehow gets water in it and it settles into the vertical pieces. My railing actually "exploded" from the water freezing inside the tube. I also drilled an eighth inch hole in the remaining verticals to relieve the water. Quite a...
