    Fastener installation into epoxy

I had a book on building plywood/fiberglass boats years ago that gave a list of pilot hole sizes for common screws in fiberglass and wood. It's recommendation was for slightly larger pilot holes in fiberglass than in wood and I found in reality that the fiberglass (an epoxy plug would act the...

Elbows on Racor fuel/water separator? +Splashwell location

The dealer mounted mine a bit low. There is only an inch or two under the drain which will be an issue when draining it before filter changes.

No Trim Tabs - Should I install them?

Here are two videos that cover what is involved with installing them. Bennett (hydraulic), 10 minute video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aKghuPCTpz8 Lenco (electric), 5 minute video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cV2BKm1s0iQ Keep in mind you will probably have to pull your fuel tanks to...

    epoxy ??????

That's good to know. I've carried JB Weld in my motorcycle tool kit for years (for uncharted rocks, I can't resist a dirt road in the mountains and have needed it more than once). I think I'll add some to the boat tool kit.

    epoxy ??????

That's true too. In a small hole straight epoxy is fine but if you're filling a larger area it needs to given more strength. It's sort of like concrete. A sidewalk is usually just a few inches thick but only supports the weight of foot traffic. A garage floor has to support the weight of cars...

    epoxy ??????

I've never used the Six10 (actually I've not seen it before) but after this video: http://www.westsystem.com/ss/six10-demo/ I may well be giving it a try the next time I need some epoxy. Just under twenty bucks on Amazon.

    epoxy ??????

The various thickeners are pretty much used to get the epoxy to stay where you want it. If you have a dead end hole to fill and can get that hole into a vertical orientation where gravity is working for you it can be filled with epoxy, just pour it in. In a transom that's hard to do. Straight...

    epoxy ??????

I'm not Sunbeam but I'll try to answer. Yes, get the mixed epoxy (resin and hardener mix) into the hole before mixing in any filler. Any wood (as in the core) and some foam cores will actually soak up the epoxy just like it will water but the filler can't be soaked up by the wood since it is a...

    epoxy ??????

If you've never used epoxy go to the West System website: http://www.westsystem.com/ss/ and check out the "How to Use/Use Guides" and "How to Use/Videos" sections. Also, the "Products/How To Publications" section as many downloadable PDF files explaining the use of their products. For...

    re-installing into solid glass

If that part of the splashwell is solid glass there is no need to over drill, fill with epoxy and then re-drill the holes in my opinion. The over drill and fill with epoxy method is useful to provide a barrier to keep water from getting into the coring material and causing rot or delamination...

    Solar charging while storing boat.

The voltage does go over 13 when the panels are connected. The voltage I quoted was with the solar panels disconnected and after running something (the fans on the house battery for a couple of minutes or raising/lowering engine on cranking battery) to pull off any surface charge before taking...

    Bilge pump, differnt batteries.

While making some notes about the electrical work I've done on the boat over the last few weeks it has occured to me that my bilge pump (Rule-Mate 2000 gph) is wired to both batteries. The feed for the auto function is coming off of the cranking battery while the feed for the maunual switch...

    Solar charging while storing boat.

Just an update. After plugging a 7 watt solar panel into each of my batteries via 12 volt outlets I'm finding my battery voltage at 12.59 to 12.63 on each battery every time I check. I just lay one solar panel on the dash in front of the steering wheel and the other on the driver's seat. So far...

SO WHAT DID YOU DO WITH OR ON YOUR C-DORY TODAY??

Honestly, I hadn't even noticed that! :xseek I'm thinking it's nothing more than a reflection of some sort but I'll have to take a good look the next time I go down to the boat to be sure!

SO WHAT DID YOU DO WITH OR ON YOUR C-DORY TODAY??

I haven't even launched this boat yet and I have another leak to repair. A few days ago, after finishing up all the electrical installations I wanted to get done before launching the boat for the first time I took a bottle of Windex and a roll of paper towels to the v-birth area before buttoning...

Ack!!! This is why I like to do things myself.

No doubt the epoxy method is the best way to do it but my only concern is getting thickened epoxy packed completely into a narrow hole a little over two inches deep without leaving air pockets. If I could get the holes into a vertical position it would be simple, just pour in the epoxy...

Ack!!! This is why I like to do things myself.

I totally agree but the way things are built these days I expected to find a few stripped screws and did. Two in the trim tabs and one in one of the gunwale brackets for the bimini. The trim tabs were installed at the factory. The custom bimini was made and installed by a canvas maker in...
