Can you cite a Coast Guard source for that? Their life jacket PDF makes no mention of a requirement to be worn. https://www.uscgboating.org/assets/1/AssetManager/Boaters-Guide-to-Federal-Requirments-for-Recreational-Boats.pdf

C-Dory book ranked #3 of all Great Loop titles

Nice. Last month on KY Lake, I had a nice chat with a gentleman on a houseboat that talked about the 4th of July you spent watching fireworks on his boat.

Steering with twin engines: Differential Throttle Control

Thanks to everyone who contributed to this thread. As a sailor, I'm used to rudder control, even when the engine is not in gear. I have to admit that our recent trip to KY lake showed my complete lack of knowledge about handling a twin engine power boat at the dock. I have a lot to learn and...

Radar arch high enough for dingy

John, Thanks for all the info. I was unaware of the federal height limit. Something to consider for sure. We have spent a lot of time in the North Channel. We usually spend time with others from the Trailer Sailor Association. We anchor out. If we want to play dingy bingo, we need a dingy...

Radar arch high enough for dingy

Having called some mfg's, I now have more questions than answers. We don't plan on using Willow as a fishing boat, but I'm wondering, just for resale value, if I should also have some rod holders added to the arch. In addition, they asked about antenna mounting plates. Do I want/need more than...

Radar arch high enough for dingy

Peter, Thanks for the response and pictures. Just what I wanted to see. BTW do you have any idea about the distance between the cabin top and the bottom of the arch? I called Bolton Stainless and they wanted specific distances to give me a quote.

Radar arch high enough for dingy

to store on cabin top. Our radar is currently mounted on the cabin top. I want to hear from anyone who installed or who has a boat, that has a taller radar arch installed that will allow an inflatable dingy to store underneath on a rack. Also the mfg, if you know. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Ceramic Heater on full-time through Winter

A good reminder Bob. We owned several sailboats from the late 90's to the mid 2000's. Surprising how many oft the had inadequate wiring as you detailed in your post. Wire nuts were very common. Sometimes it is better to strip everything out and start completely over. That way you know it is...

    Twin 40s battery question

Andy, We aren't home to look at what we have. I know each is directly wired to one battery. Each battery has a switch in the cockpit. We do not have a "house" battery. I'm making a very short jumper cable to be able to connect the positive terminals if I need to "jump start" one of the...

    radio

wanna-be Not mentioned is most modern VHV marine radios have a hi and low power switch. When you are chatting in the harbor with your friends, you don't need hi power.

    A thought

It's a small world after all. This week we were leaving the ramp at KY Dam Village Marina and heading south. Then a sailboat came into view and I motored towards it. It turns out that it was a couple that we last saw in the North Channel several years ago. Then we were talking to a couple...

Roller trailer question for the brain trust.

Perhaps I wasn't clear enough. We have guides. The boat can be centered when loaded, it still moves to the side when trailering.

Roller trailer question for the brain trust.

We now own a roller trailer, something we have never had before. I always assumed that the set up of the rollers on pivoting mounts would automatically center the boat on the trailer. Perhaps they are not properly adjusted on our trailer as the boat wants to move to starboard by several...

    The Ultimate Sub $200 Computer?

I sense your excitment! :D I've had a chromebook for the last 5 years and it has held up well and served well as a travel device. I have never investigated any of the other operating systems like you describe, but it certainly seems like a lot of programs at no cost.
