    Height of Boat Name?

Valkyrie: Congrats on the new boat!!! Take a look in Chinook's Photo Album on this site, and you can get a sense of proportion for the right letter size. As mentioned in this thread, the tallest flat area under the windows in 9.5" high, but you don't want to use quite all of it. Regards Rivverrat

    Fire Extinguisher Location

For a stain color, MinWax Natural Teak works well on white or red oak if you wipe it fairly soon after application. Has the right red tone.

    Towing with the short Tahoe

This is Riverrat on Chinook I towed for years a 4000 lb boat/trailer combo on a tandem axle surge brake trailer with an older (short) full size Jimmy. It was a '77, with a highway patrol package. Worked pretty well, but had stiff suspension and hard as rock tires. Went to a '92 K-3500 GMC...

    C Dory in Texas

Hi All This is Chinook from Northern MN. I read with great interest how Wm. Least Heat Moon's "River Horse" got people interested in C-Dory boats. I am another example; once I had read "River Horse", I knew that was my next boat. I have been a river rat for 50 years, have run boats on the...

    Kicker with twin 40s ???

Rooster: I run twin Honda 40's, and have decided no kicker for me. Are you at all interested in a 1997 Johnson Sailmaster 8 hp, 25" shaft, alternator, but manual start. It has one hour on it, was my emergency motor on a four-ton Larson Cabrio 280. Would do well on a much lighter C-dory, and...

    That white marine construction stuff

Patty Try this - www.tacomarine.com The stuff is called "Star Board", it is a UHMW polyethylene material with UV stabilizers in it to avoid deterioration from sunlight. It is great stuff, but heavy as hell and expensive. Lots of Luck, you will probably not find a local dealer, but you can...

    new boat soon...

Hello from Riverrat on Chinook!! : I would vote for twins, and 40's at that. Reasons - reliability - dual charging systems - lots of floating stuff to get your prop in the Sound - essentially no weight penalty - and you can self rescue with a set of jumper cables or a prop wrench. Enjoy!!

When the boat guy ain't doin' boats --- way off topic

Les Looks like you have it nailed now!! Conventient layout, excellent weight distribution, carrying the weight within the wheelbase, & should be balanced port to starboard too!! Got to see some pix when done!! Happy Holidays, Lou a.k.a. Riverrat

When the boat guy ain't doin' boats --- way off topic

Les - I would think about swapping the bunks & w/c to the back end and get the water tanks forward, over the wheel wells at least. To much weight aft with the current arrangement. Bus chassis have long rear overhang, and the weight of the water way in the back will create dangerous sway...

    trailer brakes

i have had the same hassle with drum brakes, especially on long trips. I have had great success cleaning up the greasy shoes by first using ether (diesel starting fluid), followed by either brake cleaner or premium electrical contact cleaner. You might wait a day or two after the ether to see...
