Would like to tour a 16' C-Dory - SE US (North Carolina)

Marchetti ??? Now that's a blast from the past! Man those things were fast... and they needed to be. Took on water like a sponge! If you ever broke down, the'd sink so fast you'd be wringing water out of the motor  Mine sank at least a half dozen times...

    Lewmar Pro-Fish 700 Windlass?

I have two of the LEWMAR Sprint 600s in stock. I checked in the boxes and both have the manual handle included. Are they better quality than the 700? I don't know. Are they more expensive than the 700? yes. What's the difference? I don't know that either! Is it worth the difference? Hard to...

    Engines stalling?

I have been watching this thread and have another thought... ( Read: Beggining of the sermon! ) There is simply no substitute for good maintenance! AND... there is only one way to check a battery connection. Here is how we do it. Remove the battery cables from the battery. Clean the terminal...

    Engines stalling?

Joe, I am not a Honda dealer, so I can't answer about Honda... My experience with Suzy built Johnsons, and with Mercury, The ECM is powered by battery voltage. The ECM will not operate at less than 9 or 9.5 volts.(something in that range) Therefore, you would have no spark and no injection at...

    Engines stalling?

    1. Will an electronically fuel injected motor start with a manual rope in an emergency (maybe should read "What's the minimum voltage necessary, if any, for a fuel injected motor to be started manually?" and How big an engine can actually be started manually? Joe An Evinrude Etec can be...

    On board in a thunderstorm

One of the most important things you can ever learn about how to safely operate a boat is to know when to stay home... Edit: Just had a thought... For anyone wishing to get adventurous and try their hand at adverse conditions... If you've never seen pieces of the shipwrecks on the north shore...

    On board in a thunderstorm

I'm not a sailor, but I am fairly certain that sailor's have a contingency for thunderstorms while on the water... I am not sure of the specs, but there is a "grounding" circuit available for the mast. Perhaps a sailor would have more info... Whether it could be conformed to a C-Dory I really...

Dusty, Glad to hear yours is running well! I keep hoping I'll get a chance to do a little crabbin' with some of Ya'll soon! Pullin' pots in bad weather actually sounds like more fun than work! ( 'round here, we call guys like me "Hayseed" ) In the meantime, Keep them crab pics comin' ! My...

    ETEC Cold Water Performance

Just to keep the group updated... I sent Tom a "baseline" snapshot of a 90 Etec running at cruise and at WOT. I am sure he'll compare my readings to his and post back. Keep in mind that air temp, barometric pressure, RPMs, and even the prop may make his readings slightly different than mine...
