    Boat lifts

Has anyone had experience with a Sunstream FloatLift? They are made in Kent, WA and look pretty good on their web site. Thanks.

    What's in YOUR water tank?

I am not near the boat but yes, I've done it easily. Try to see where the open slot of the C is and pull toward it, not straight up.

    What's in YOUR water tank?

If it is anything like my boat that v awkward hatch can be popped off at the hinges and then popped on again. The receptacle part of the hinge ie not the hinge pin (there must be a proper name for it) is a C not an O so this does not seem to hurt anything.

    Need anchor chain recommendation

To the extent that "energy absorption" can be considered as a proxy for "elasticity" and also that manufacturers' numbers are believable then this might allay concerns on that point. http://www.yalecordage.com/html/pdf/ple ... low2/5.pdf

    Honda 150 Maintenance

I suppose boat engines work much harder than cars. If at 30 mph the boat gets 3 mpg even a heavy car would be getting 30 mpg on a flat road so the boat engine is working much harder and the throttle is much wider open. This will mean the bmep is much higher and so the plugs are more...

    Boater competentcy...

TomRay wrote; If the training we put airline pilots through does not markedly affect judgment, how will a little testing? I should have mentioned that airline pilots have an accident rate roughly one 40th of GA pilots so the training really helps. However when accidents occur they are...

    Boater competentcy...

Like many other contributors I also have some 50 years of aviation background and served on the NBAA safety committee for some time. The many studies that I read suggested that there are 3 human components of safe operations; knowledge, skill and judgement, and it is judgement that is lacking in...

demo ride in San Francisco bay area?

I was at Outboard Motor today and Bill is on holiday all this week. I was not paying attention but I dimly remember a new 25 with a $79k "sticker" but have no idea how it was equipped though it may have had a Honda 150 on it. Bryan or one of the others would be happy to talk with you I am sure.

    Fountain of hydraulic fluid today

This may not help but in reading the SeaStar tech ref manual I had a couple of questions and this is the answer I got very promptly from them. > 1. Is your HC 5345 OK for twin Honda 150hp outboards? Your info only > mentions the BF135. > > 2. On page 176 of your hydraulic steering tech...

Best small coffee thermos on the planet is......

YACD is correct about a sphere being best and depending upon how eager you are for the thermodynamic optimum you can find an approximation here; http://www.finemech.com/kgw_isotherm/sp ... asks.shtml bit pricey though.

    Tomcat anchor

I have talked with Ramsey Winch to check on the strength of the worm gear assembly following your good point and the unit used has a max operating load of 8,000 lbs (without a brake) so I am not too worried now about doing without the cleat. We should get the hull mid-July and I'll do the...

    Trailer choice for TC 255

I am finalizing my order for the boat and visited the factory yesterday. They showed me the custom EZ Loader 2-axle trailer that they offer and it looked pretty good to me but I'm no judge of trailers having only used them for ski boats. My dealer says I need a 3-axle trailer and that the...

    Tomcat anchor

The winch itself is the "cleat" that secures the anchor rode to the boat. The reduction gear is a worm drive and so the reel cannot be turned by pulling on the rode. The pull mentioned is that which can be exerted on the rode by the motor but you always use the engine(s) to ease the boat forward...

    Tomcat anchor

I took some photos of my ugly cardboard mockup and put them in my album, I think. This boat was at the dealer and as you can see already had a Lewmar windlass and cleat.
