    converting to high top

It is certainly doable, but I will bet any glass guy will charge $5,000+ to do it. David

    Are you hunkering down?

Just watching NY governor Cuomo's press conference. Essentially everything in NY shuts down tonight: restaurants, bars, theaters, museums, etc. Here in SW Florida it is almost business as usual. Restaurants and bars are teeming. There is a big St Patrick's Day event tomorrow at a local...

    Xantrex Freedom XC inverter/charger

You can power the entire buss, but it takes discipline to never turn on the water heater for example. That will quickly run down your batteries. If you want to wire it this way, take the incoming power from the shore power inlet and run it to the inverter's AC input, Then take the AC output...

    Xantrex Freedom XC inverter/charger

I have installed a few of these. What you have said so far is correct. Install a 30A breaker on the main panel to feed the inverter. The trick is how you feed the AC loads from the inverter. The best way is to position the loads you want to power from the inverter's AC output on the lower end...

Trailer brakes in salt water service

Yes, I do rinse but I am not sure it does much good. With drum brakes the parts that need to be rinsed- inside the drum where the shoes are doesn't get any water when you rinse. I even thought about removing the little rubber covers on the adjusting hole and squirting water inside but I doubt if...

Trailer brakes in salt water service

I just replaced my trailer's brakes which had been used in sea water conditions for about ten years. This was a drum brake system with a surge actuator. So I would like to describe my experiences and suggestions for a better system. First lets talk about the top of the line system: electric...

    03/03 - 03/05 - Hontoon Island CBGT Deland, Florida

I had registered, but this weekend when I greased up the trailer bearings and put more hydraulic fluid in, I noticed the fluid pouring out of the wheel cylinders. So the brakes are shot. It will take several days to get it fixed so unfortunately I can't make the get together this time. Maybe...

What can I plug into this???

Ahhh, ok. But most O/B alternators don't put out much current, probably no more than 10A at slow speeds. So subtract 10A from each of the amperage load calculations above. It doesn't improve the answer much though. David

What can I plug into this???

Here are some numbers: Your house battery has about 70 amp hours of capacity but you only want to draw it down to 50% for best life so it has 35 usable AHs. An inverter converts DC 12 V to 120V AC to drive each of those appliances. A hot plate probably draws about 1,000 watts so that takes...

Check out the Engle line of DC portable fridges/freezers. They work, but not cheap! David

    Dealing with Chop

You can often get a better ride by angling off of directly into the chop, but it won't help that much and will add to your trip time. That is the nature of the C Dory. Also and don't blast me for touting another brand, but my Atlas Pomano 23 with a downeaster full keel hull handles 2' of chop...

E-Tec Warning Horn Stays On At Very Low Volume

If this were an older mechanical/electric engine rather than a mechanical/electrical/electronic engine I would have bet good money that one of the engine sensor contacts: temp, oil pressure, etc. were not opening fully leaving a small amount of current flowing. That current is enough to create a...

    03/03 - 03/05 - Hontoon Island CBGT Deland, Florida

Yes, that is exactly the trip I was thinking of. Anyone want to join me on that trip leaving late morning on 3/5? David

    03/03 - 03/05 - Hontoon Island CBGT Deland, Florida

I would enjoy joining a trip down the Dead Hontoon River or maybe down to Blue Spring State Park for a night after the event wraps up on March 5. Anyone going that way afterwards? David

    New Procat Catamaran

Unless you have an F350 dually I don't think you have enough truck to pull that boat. I will bet it weighs at least 15,000 lbs sitting on a trailer. I once had a 35' x 15' Island Packet catamaran that didn't look as tough as that beast. Mine weighed 18,000 lbs with gear and fuel although the...

Observations on my non C-Dory Trawler

You should get out and try anchoring out while cruising. It is a totally different experience than staying at a marina, particularly hanging out at dusk, sharing a cocktail with your wife and watching a blazing sunset. Nothing is better. Pictures? Well this site is a PITA to post pictures to...

Observations on my non C-Dory Trawler

The following are some observations about how my boat works for me. It is not a C-Dory and I am not trying to put down the comparable C-Dory 22, although if I could have found an Angler 22s it would be very similar to mine. So many of these comments would apply to the Angler 22 or the Cruiser...

    Power inverter

Whether the voltage is being read correctly doesn't change the fact that the induction stove won't come on unless something else is turned on first. This is probably due to how the stove interacts with the inverter- it puts very little load on during its initial start up, so the inverter...

    Suzuki vs E-tec

This is what I know about the Etecs: The original two stroke alternative to the four strokes was the Fitch motor developed by Evinrude. That was a disaster. Evinrude solved most of the Fitch's problems and came out with the Etecs. These were reasonably successful and competed well with...

    Honda 200

Why don't you first flush the engine with Barnacle Buster or similar and see how she goes? I realize that flushing with fresh water does more than reduce fouling, it slows corrosion as well. BB flushing won't help the latter. David
