18th Annual Delta and Bay Extravaganza

18th Annual Delta and Bay Extravaganza
Wednesday, April 29, 2020 to Sunday, May 3, 2020

Can you believe that we made it to the 18th year for this event? Some of us are still standing (though sometimes just barely).

This 2020 event is now scheduled at the same time it was last year. Hopefully we will enjoy the nice weather we had in 2019.

If you are interested in being part of the 2020 Extravaganza, please reserve your place now by indicating on this thread that you will be going, and that you are signing up for the full five-day journey. Please do not sign up unless you can commit to showing up to this Extravaganza, and you can attend the entire event.

You might look at the last 17 years of threads if you want some idea of what this gathering is like. There is also extensive video documentation of this event on the site to help you visualize this journey.

This year our venues will be the same as last year. We will start off at Rio Vista and go to the Honker Bay Duck Club on Wednesday as usual. Then we will try to get back into Sausalito (weather permitting) on Thursday. If we cannot get into Sausalito, we may stay another night (Thursday) at the Duck Club. We will again skip Petaluma because of extreme silting of the Turning Basin there. After Sausalito, we will be spending two nights in San Francisco (Friday and Saturday nights). We have the SF reservations now. The two nights in S.F. is the same as last year, as we will have more time to look around the Bay and visit in The City.

There is a strict ten (10) boat maximum for the Extravaganza. This maximum is because of Duck Club and San Francisco marina space limitations.

Two (2) vessels are already signed up, namely:

1. Pounder – Jim & Kath
2. Dinner Belle II – John & Robbin.

Right now, there are eight spaces left. The next eight boats signed up on this thread will be able to go. Pease be aware that this event fills up quickly with the maximum 10 boats. Those indicating that they want to attend after the ten-boat limit is reached will be put on a waiting list, and they will be added to the event if someone else drops out before the event takes place.

If you make the commitment to go on this trip you will likely enjoy the journey. There are many repeat folks at this event year-after-year. All C-Brats are welcome, both new timers and old timers.

This Extravaganza is less than four months away! More will be posted later, but please reserve your place NOW if you intend to go.

Sincerely,
Jim & Kath

Please sign up Far C'r to join you on your historical Extravaganza. Looking forward to experiencing once again this one of a kind adventure! Not sure yet of my crew but will fill in details later.

Hi Jim,
Please sign us up! Look forward to seeing some old friends and meeting some new ones. For those of you who might be hesitating This is an excellent way to get an overview of some bay and Delta cruising with great people. Jim if there’s anything Laurie and I can do to help let us know.
John and Laurie
PS: It’s crazy we don’t travel that much but when we do this Announcement comes. Nos Venmo’s luego Amigos! :D

This is really a great event. And it is worth it SO MUCH. I was there for the 2019 trip and really enjoyed it: the folks, the weather, sharing the dock with the seal lions, and being docked right next to the SF Giants stadium. Hummmm, wonder if they are playing the Seattle Mariners then. I would be going back this year but have family obligations that weekend. I did take an extra couple of weeks and spent some time up in the Delta between Sacramento and Stockton. Really different boating for a PNW guy. All worth it and a great learning experience.

Please sign me up. Always enjoy the trip and camaraderie, never two trips alike. I will have to check on the crew for the final count and get back.

I'll be out of town on business during most of that time, but I'd love to meet everyone towards the end of the trip. Please post time/date/location info for all or at least the last couple of days so I can hopefully drop in and say "hi" and check out everyone's boats.

Hopefully I'll be able to join in a future year.

I too would like the details - I’m unable to make the whole trip but it would be fun to cruise a short leg with you all.

Fishwisher- is that Dale Gillespie’s old boat?

Yes it is! So far it has been a great boat and I have done some improvements. I wrote to Dale on his Blog but haven’t heard back from him- had a few questions about some mods he did.

Seeing one spot left on the forthcoming Delta/Bay Extravaganza, I want to make sure that all C-brats look at this opportunity and take advantage of it. This event is an outstanding experience! It provides a wide variety of experiences as you motor from Rio Vista, near Sacramento, all the way to San Francisco over a four day period. There is even time to get some fishing in for Sacramento River Sturgeon, and a chance to experience a bit of old California on a private 1000 acre island. The Marcia Jane has taken part in this event several times in the last 11 years. It is by far the highlight of our boating experiences since we purchased to MARCIA JANE in 2008. This event has been coordinated by Jim Gibson (Pounder), who has planned and organized this event for the last 18 years. Jim and Kathy are two of the nicest people you'll ever meet and it's been a real treat to know them.

Alas, we will not be participating in this years Extravaganza because of my physical condition, but I would grab that last spot if I could. Jim, I remember encouraging you to go after a knee replacement, since my replacements were working so well. Now maybe not so much. The metal knees lasted 20 years and I feel blessed about that. I have since had both knees replaced again. The first surgery was flawless. The second surgery developed a staph infection that has had required several emergency room visits and then 2 bouts of infusion (42 days straight each time), as well as another surgery to remove the metal knee and replace it with a cement spacer. I'll be using a walker until the infection is gone and hopefully will get a new knee in approximately April.

With a good result from surgery as well as physical therapy, we just might make the August Two Harbors event. If not, the Marcia Jane may be put for for sale. We love that boat and Marcia will have to be convinced that I'm not able to realistically continue use of the boat that we love so much.

Fellow C-brats, we wish we could join you on this cruise, but will watch your voyage from afar. God bless, good weather and calm seas!

Kent, So sorry you are not able to fill that last spot. It does sound like you have had generally great success with your past knee replacements, and here's hoping and praying for continued new successes with the replacement replacements.

And I agree totally, that Delta Extravaganza is a special and unique trip. Also a highlight of my C-Dory experience.

some day..... Wrapping up Nuro/Cardio VA appointments on 20April before heading NW. Yall have a blast and I hope to boat with some of you this summer some way, some where.

Kent - so sorry to hear of your knee replacement surgery challenges. I hope you finally get some success with the procedure and that you can join us in Catalina this year. It would be nice to use your boat another time before you have to put it up for sale.

We all have our health issues. I too have been challenged. In July I had a stroke after walking 200 miles across England from the Irish Sea to the North Sea with Kathy. Luckily I had the stroke in my front yard on return and Kathy got me to the ER quickly so they could use the miracle drug TPA to bust up the clot in my brain. I am doing pretty well now, but the stroke really shook me up, and made me realize that we will not be around this place forever, and that someone else will have to eventually be leading some of these C-Dory trips.

We now have 9 boats signed up for this Extravaganza as follows:

1. Jim & Kath (Pounder)
2. John & Robbin (Dinner Belle II)
3. Floyd & Eiko (Far C'r)
4. Karl (Tessa)
5. John & Laurie (Slack Time)
6. Steve et. al. (Dora-Jean)
7. Tony & Diane (C-View II)
8. Roger & PJ (C-Hawk)
9. Joel & Susan (SEA3PO).

We have room for one (1) more vessel. Please sign up if you are interested.
