2007 Venture Trailer - needs new cable.

Cable broke while transporting. Need a new one but would rather have a strap. Anyone know if the 07' Venture trailer can receive a new strap or do I have to buy a new winch all together. Trip planned for this coming week. Thanks Brats
 
The strap for the trailer winch is a replaceable item. It should be checked for condition on a regular basis and replaced as needed.

You can convert most old style cable winches to straps. The strap has a sewn in loop at one end and of course the hook for the boat bow eye at the other.
I have converted several of the cable winches to straps, by drilling a hole through the drum to except the bolt that goes through the loop. The only show stopper is that most off the shelf straps are 2" and some of the older winch drums were not that wide.
Take a look at a winch on-line that has the strap and you will see the bolt going through near the base of the drum.
 
Converting may be dependent on your winch brand. Agree most will, but as mentioned some of the winch wheels are not wide enough to accept a 2" strap. Also, When I converted mine to a strap, there were several different working load straps. I got heavier than my boat, so I think it was a 6,000 working load. Just watch because they ranged from 1500 up to 12000+.
