2009 good year for Canadian salmon?

I got the following in an email ad

Forecasts are great for the Queen Charlotte’s and the Nushagak in 2009

Canadian Fisheries claims the water temperature is the coldest in 11 years and the ocean conditions are perfect for setting up huge runs of returning Chinook and Coho for 2009

In 2005 the Nushagak had over 300k returning Chinook – this year will be the returning fish from that run, coupled with terrific ocean conditions equates to a banner year in 2009

Does this mean good fishing elsewhere around Vancouver Island?

cold water close to shore means more plakton and bait for the salmon so more and bigger salmon close to shore. This should mean better runs all around. Kings are in the big c already.

Well the word I got from the BC fish folks was that this condition suggests fishing on the West sde of Vancouver island. Inside, on the East side is not expected to be very good though.

I read with interest your post regarding colder ocean water this year. Is there anymore word on the BC Fisheries (Salmon) for the Eastside of Vancouver Island since your last post? I am planning on fishing the area around Port McNeill and points East late July/August, that's the upper end of Vancouver Island.
