22 C Dory center console?

Not only no pilothouse/cabin, but no engine and no trailer for $24, 900!

Another minimalism experience for cheap, not!

I did see one like that this summer at Refuge Cove, BC. Very clean and well taken care of, and I believe it was out of Campbell River, BC. It has a very nice console and interior, just different and not for me.

I have not seen very many Center Consoles but there is one I see around the eastern Juan de Fuca occasionally.

About every year or two, one of these CD-22 Center Consoles shows up somewhere in an ad or in a sighting.

Some careful researching could probably find a half dozen to a dozen more threads about them.

The general consensus is that they would be best at home on the Gulf or South Atlantic Coasts where the water and air are very warm and shorts and T-shirts the order of the day.

Buy one, put in some of that magic white carpet, and take it down to the Keys and hang out at the fish restaurants and drink red wine all day.

De Ja' Vu!

Our winning formula reappears!

Must be some Fundamental Truth residing in there somewhere.

How about a three-month long C-Brat Get Together in the Keys to try it out?

Maybe we've found Ponce de Leon's Fountain of Youth after all?

Haha, yeah I'm game for that! Hanging out in the Keys for a few months sounds perfect right now.... :)

I never understood that whole centre console craze. Obviously they're at home in warmer climates where it's warm most of the year BUT even so; I'd still like the protection of a cabin and having the sleeping berth available. I know that ease fishing is a big part of the equation too. They're just not my bag.

I'll never buy a CC....

Down here in the Tropical Tip of Texas, a cabin type boat is a rarity - center consoles abound. You don't see people overnighting on boats, but they are day (and night) fishing all around. Different tools for different purposes.

Marc at Wefings let me take a 22 C-Dory center console out when he first got one... we had a lot of fun with it. Didn't fit our cruising style, but so easy to move all around the boat.

Some people have made note of the similarities of the CD-22 and a VW bus/camper. That said, you sure see a lot of sports cars out there, too.

The Center Console is a pure fishing boat. Best served in the Catamaran or deep V hull form, because you want to be able to go out in almost all weather, and return at a decent speed. Although the C Dory 22 CC, can be taken offshore, it can be a slow ride home, if the wind and seas kick up. It would make a great "bay boat" because of the shoal draft.

We use or 18' Caracal Cat Center Console mostly in the Keys--and it is ideal there. Also good in any season except winter, in the upper Gulf Coast.

How many of these did C-Dory make? Every time I see mention of a C-Dory center console, I wonder what they were thinking - there are so many better alternatives in CCs: Mako, Aquasport, Boston Whaler, et al. The factory somehow got a sailboat dealer in Annapolis to take one a few years ago. They were stuck with it for ages. Don't know whatever became of it.

I don't know what the exact value of the older Boston Whalers, but the ones I have seen, THT, several neighbors, and foes I have know, Had to resore the older boats--not cheap. The foam can become water logged that this is a major issue.

My impression is that the C Dory holds it value better. Part is the design, part is the construction, and part is that there have been very few changes thru the years. For example a 21 foot Boston Whaler of the 2006 Vintage retail with trailer and motor runs about $23K. The purchase price was about 50K. Compare the the 2006 C Dory22, selling at about 40,000 and a new price of about 50K.

Go back to 1993, the C Dory cost about $25K and today will sell for about 25 to 30 K This is what they cost in 1993! Boston Whaler 1993 22 footer, cost about $30K now selling high blue for $9400. Most likely the C Dory will also be in better shape!
